Paul does that work for 'Groups' as in who created a group and thus what profile the group 'belongs' to?

Yes - It works on any 'datastore' item, including groups.

Note that if using the new Change Owner module, make sure you have updated to the latest GroupPage module, 1.0.9, if applicable. It has a listener so that if its parent group has its owner changed, the the page owner will get changed as well.
