Hey everyone -

I just pushed out an update Profile Forum module that now includes the ability to have forum categories. I know many of our users were likely going to be asking for it, and I figured it would also come in handy here on the Support forum.

Let me know if you guys see any issues.

Thanks!

One thing that still seems like it may need just a little work is the unread notification - if it seems flaky, log out and back in and see if that helps. I'll be tweaking it today to make sure it is working properly.

When posting a new thread in a forum (it was the suggestions forum, and the first thread which may be a factor), it showed the unread coloured button for the category on the main forum page ( http://test.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum ).

I had definitely read it because I had just written it.

I just revisited these forums, and the announcements forum showed as unread.

But the last post was the one above, nothing posted since.

Yep - I'll be going over the setup in the AM as I'm seeing it being off too.

Thanks!

The subforums are nice, but I quite liked having the single view of all posts.

Could there be an additional view showing all new/updated threads from all sub forums? It would save quite a few clicks for people who visit the forum often.

Yeah that's not a bad idea, and I too like the single forum view - my only worry is that in single page view new topics are going to get pushed down pretty quickly.

I just got done with the new "view tracking" setup (which was WAY more complicated than I ever anticipated), so for now I think I am going to let things roll as they are before I try to add any thing else to the forum module, as it is quickly become overly complicated.

Thanks!

Okay my latest update SHOULD fix the view/not viewed topic bugs that have been hanging around since yesterday. I had to fully reset the "last view" table, so everything is starting from scratch. When you first view the forum here, the system thinks you are new to the forum, so only new topics that have been posted since the LAST view time will show up as new.

So hopefully you see this post since it won't show up as new ;)

I've added a small image of the last user to update a forum to the index - let me know if you guys see any issues.

Thanks!

Don't wanna push my luck here, but any chance we could get a last post timestamp on the forum index? (that lists the subforums)

If not, no biggie - thanks!

If you hold your mouse over the user image on the category index, it will show you when the last update was posted.

let me know if that works.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean - do you mean the "users currently online" in the footer of the forum? Or something else?

Thanks!

Ahh it did not post...I used left /right arrows so the forum does not like some special chars. This brings on another request lol to have a code button where you could copy and paste some text and not worry about it getting stripped out. You are going to need that in here when people start posting code for help.

The forum supports BBCode, so you can use code tags - i.e.

[ code ]

code here

[ /code ]

So with "Online.png" you mean an image that shows if they are on or offline?

Thanks!

Ahh nice I was not aware you introduced all that. Yes on the image. Not a huge deal and I can probably add it on my own. PHPBB and VB usually show in the footer who is online and their name would also change color to green so you could identify who was there in a thread.

Yeah that would not be specific to the forum, but is supported via the {jrUser_online_status} template function - note though that that function uses an Ajax call to determine the status (since the page can be cached and may not accurately reflect the online status of the user), so on a page with a ton of different users it could kick off a lot of calls to the server, which may (or may not) be a big deal.

Brian - Is there a way to change the settings in the Forum so that users are not able to pin post or is only the "owner" able to pin?

Only the profile owner can mark a post as pinned.
