We aren't running SSL but we have noticed if our users post a link to an event page on our site the links go from http to https in facebook ( which dont go anywhere.
Why is FB doing this. Never had this before

Facebook is all SSL - I can't remember it not being SSL. I would highly recommend getting setup with SSL on your site - the ShareThis module basically requires it, and if you want to allow people to embed your player on FB you will have to be on SSL.

Our last site pulled in images and posts and links without ever using ssl.
We aren't sure why it would turn our link into an ssl one now?
Any ideas
Edit:
I just tested our work site which is not ssl and it pulls into pages fine.
So why is JR returning an ssl link to FB when we dont have it installed?
Edit 2:
The artists links work fine. They pull in the Images and the Bio.
Seems to be only the events
go to facebook and post this in a feed
http://www.punkbandpromotions.com/agent-attitude
It stays the same
then post this
http://www.punkbandpromotions.com/knife49/event/38
It changes to https
So something is wrong

I don't see how JR is involved with that - If FB is changing the link to an "https" link, I'm not sure how JR can tell FB NOT to do that?

Does jr have any ssl settings in any module ( ie Events ) ?
maybe they are sending back a https link?
Just an idea
The artists pages work perfectly and keep the http links, but the events go in as a https link. If you click on them at FB they go nowhere as we arent running ssl
just a thought?
Did you test both links? You will see what is happening

Yeah - this is 100% something on Facebook's end though - it's "detecting" something about the URL that makes it want to server it over SSL - maybe it's the word "event" in the URL or something.

This is not something Jamroom can control though - you'd have to contact facebook for clarification.

Thanks!

I found the problem.

Seems if the share this module is active on the landing page on our site, fb converts it to https
Once ShareThis is disabled the linking works fine.
So without going ssl is there any fix?

Yeah there might be - I didn't know FB would "checkout" the page if all you did was post a URL into FB but looks like it does. The reason ShareThis uses SSL is that sharing audio to FB requires SSL (basically if you want to "embed" anything). Are you going to let your users share audio to FB? If so you will need SSL. If not, I can probably "detect" if the page is SSL or not, and make the sure the OG tags inside are using SSL (or not).

OK I just pushed out version 1.0.5 of the ShareThis module that now should detect if the request is for an SSL page or not, and embed the proper version in the OG tags for the page. Update, reset caches and let me know if that works for you.

Hope this helps!

Can you post a link to the page you are sharing? I updated jamroom.net here and I see it working correctly here.

Note that if you are trying to share a page that was previously shared on FB, it's cached on FB's end and won't work properly until the cache expires on FB's side.

Hope this helps!

Here's one that has never been used
http://www.punkbandpromotions.com/knife49/event/40/knife49-ball-and-chain-social-distortion-tribute-band-razorboyhaterock
BTW we are going to get an ssl cert. But for people that don't have one would be good to at least fix it so they can link ;)

That's all correct - you can see the OG: tags are now no longer showing SSL:

<meta property="og:url" content="http://www.punkbandpromotions.com/knife49/event/40/knife49-ball-and-chain-social-distortion-tribute-band-razorboyhaterock" />
<meta property="og:type" content="website" />
<meta property="og:title" content="KNIFE49+ BALL AND CHAIN (Social Distortion tribute Band)+ RAZORBOYHATEROCK" />
<meta property="og:see_also" content="http://www.punkbandpromotions.com/knife49/event/40/knife49-ball-and-chain-social-distortion-tribute-band-razorboyhaterock" />
<meta property="og:image" content="http://www.punkbandpromotions.com/event/image/event_image/40/xxlarge/crop=auto" />

So if it is STILL turning those to SSL, that's something that FB is doing on their end. All we can do with the module is try to influence FB via the Open Graph tags.

Hope this helps!

yeah just tested and the last one was probably cached at FB's end.
Didn't think to hit the FB Developer Debug which clears it
http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
Anyway problem solved @brian.
So when we eventually get an ssl cert it automatically picks up we are running https right?
Cheers Mate!

Glad to see that is working - and yes - if you update to SSL, the module will "see" that the page is being access on SSL and the OG: tags in the header section will use https.

Hope this helps!
