solved How to un-follow discussions for a user that leaves the Group

My understanding is that a user can be following discussions in a Group of which they are not a member, and they will get update notifications for that discussion.

When a member leaves a group, it's usually because they don't want any more notifications from that particular group. Is there a way of automatically undoing all the discussion Follows for a member, when that member leaves the group?

That does not seem right - a user should never be notified of new discussions within a group they are not a member of - I consider that a security issue and will check it out if that is the case.

Yes - a user should not receive notifications for a group they are not a member of - I'll get a tracker open on that so we can check it out.

If a person is no longer a member of a particular Group (a group that is not set to 'private'), they will not be able to see the responses in group discussions anyway- they can see only the first post but all the subsequent replies will be hidden (at least on my site that's how it is). So it wouldn't do them any good to get a notification that there's a new post in a group discussion... they shouldn't be able to see the new post anyway.

but... Lorna, are you actually experiencing these residual Group notifications continuing after people leave groups? Or are you just asking how it's supposed to work?

@strumelia Yes, a user has left a group and is still getting notifications for updates to discussions she was following.

I had a vague idea that you could follow discussions even if not a member of a group and I thought it was undesirable at the time, but perhaps that's not right. I will check.

I'm not sure if this is directly related to the new update, but...

I just received a message from a member who has received the following email notification:

A Discussion you are following has been updated:
user: Garret
post: Makes of chromatic dulcimers
view: https://fotmd.com/strumelia/group_discuss/507/makes-of-chromatic-dulcimers#cm159069
Here is the message that has just been posted: .....(etc etc)

The member who got this notification thought I should know about it. She sent me various helpful screenshots clearly showing she is not following that group discussion, and is not a member of that group (never has been, thus cannot even see the new post when she follows the email link), and neither she nor the poster of the new post are following each other. She seems to have no connections to it at all, yet she received this random email notification about a new post in that group discussion.

Have just looked at your database and user Judith is following that discussion, even though she is not a group member, so can only assume that in the past she was a member.
However, to resolve this, particularly after this latest release, I'll add a verification function to the module that is run upon an Integrity Check to clean up any of these anomolies.
Thanks
