solved Banned Items - partial profile names

I am trying to ban user names containing a certain string. I have added this string to the banned items list under 'Profile or User names', but names are still being accepted with this string of characters.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this not working?

This is correct. Only whole words are tested for. If someone tried to signup as 'Ruips' it would be rejected.

Thanks for your response Paul. I was misled by the help text for the field, which reads as follows:
Profile or User Name: Enter words *or partial words* that cannot be used in a User Name, Profile Name or Profile URL.

Is there any chance of an enhancement to ban partial words? A lot of spammers seem to use random characters together with a particular identifying string.
It would be really helpful if we could ban, say %Ruips%

I agree it would be useful to adjust this to ban partial words/names. Especially since the help message does include "partial" in its description.

I'll check this out. It might be a bug.

Get the latest module Banned module from the Marketplace. It should handle partial searches ok now.
Note that now when creating banned words, emails etc. there's a checkbox to force a partial search for the item. If not checked, the search will still be on word boundaries, as it worked before.
