Can't seem to be able to get the box to appear in order for people to comment on posts, photos etc,

Comments is installed, disqus is NOT installed, pretty sure the module is configured correctly.

Your screenshot looks to be showing a timeline with the comment icon below each entry. Are you saying that when clicking on the icon you are then not seeing the page with the comment form on?

Sorry Paul, bad example, yes that redirects to give a comment box.

But on timeline posts if the box is clicked it jumps back to the timeline, ideally i would like a text box to be visible under the timeline update for replies

Thanks for the info on disqus not being installed.

First thing that jumps to mind to check is: is the comments allowed for all the quotas:
ACP -> MODULES -> ITEM FEATURES -> COMMENTS -> QUOTA CONFIG -> Allowed On Profile -> CHECK

and use the APPLY TO ALL QUOTAS button at the top to make sure every quota gets those same settings.

If you click on the comment icon of a status (or any other) timeline entry you should go to the detail page of that entry and you can make and view comments there (see my screenshot). Is that not happening for you?

Thanks Paul.

Works for most things like photo posts, audio posts and event posts. But a regular timeline post doesnt. When I click the comments icon it redirects to that persons profile

That is behaving differently to my test site then. Can you send the site URL and the admin login to support[at]jamroom[dot]net and I'll take a look and see what's going on.
Thanks
