solved cometchat & php versions

cometchat does not work on php 7.1X but works fine on 7.2X
cometchat was trying to get me to pay an additional upgrade fee to fix cometchat claiming my issue (it not loading) was a result of the old version.
previous core version would not update on 7.2 so i had switched to 7.1 till the core was fixed
upon switching back to 7.2 cometchat simply fixed itself and started working again

if your cometchat has stopped working consider trying a diferent php version

...or as I did, move to Jamroom's SimpleChat, where they fix everything right away at no charge if it ever stops working for some reason. ;D

i use that on freedomswings.org
cause it doesnt really get used much. i bought cometcht b4 simple chat was an option and its worked well on dreadlockssite.com
i like comechat alot more ..except the price
i might consider trying it on dreadlockssite..i'll have to play with it a lil more on freedomswings

Know that cometchat will not work with Redis sessions - just an FYI.

not using redis sessions at the momment cause of the fact it doesnt alow users online visitors online and bots to be viewed properly

That's not true - that's an issue with your setup on your server :)

well why is it then that user sessions shows proper counts and redis sessions does not
i asked what setting in the redis conf file might cause it

heres another thing
the site freedomswings.org that has very low trafic has a better chance of showing the right (maybe) number of users online and bots
at least it shows more then 1
the site with more trafic, more people on at once always shows just 1 in each ctegory, and only 1 usually when you view whos online

Yeah I don't know about that issue - I don't admin your server. I can just say that all the sites that use it on our hosting, plus here on jamroom.net, we don't see that issue. If I come across it happening on a site we control I can for sure check it out and fix anything that might need fixing, but this specific issue I cannot replicate anywhere.

i'll try again now that i switched php versions
it is odd and confusing
like i explained it seems to close sessions nearly instantly so they dont register except the current loading of the dashboard page itself
i'll look through the redis conf file if i can find it and see kf i can't guess at whats the cause

This is the one:

This means your Redis server closes the connection before the module could do it's work - it's not configured correctly OR your firewall is not allowing connection to the Redis port.

changed maxmem remove to allkeys-lru instead of volitile
but still not right
keepalives set to 300
wait maybe i know
OK i set max connections to 10000 timeout to 15 instead of 0 for disabled

its gotten lil better but not right yet i think

what are the important settings that might be the cause
seeing 2 in e very category now insted of 1 users online shows about 3 or so
so its a itty bit better but still not there yet

what conf settings do u use
maybe you should include a conf file with the module and documentation for what to edit (to increase ram use etc)

I highly doubt it is related to anything in your Redis config - the "default" redis config is correct - just make sure and set the max memory value - i.e.:

maxmemory 1G

would setup a 1 Gig cache.

You want to check your Firewall settings, or other settings to ensure the module can connect to port 6379.

the only thing i saw that looked odd was bind 0.0.0.0
i sorta expected 127.0.0.1

it has a 61.5% cache hit rate
i see typicaly 1-2 active connections in server status
so it has to be connecting to it
i set up a 2gb cache


could it be that bind and what should it be

Yes - you do NOT want it to be 0.0.0.0, since that means all interfaces (which in effect makes it public) - change it to:

bind 127.0.0.1

but end result was bind address in use

Do not download the conf from the internet - use the one that came with your distribution. Your distro is likely NOT running Redis 4 or later versions, so you need to use the correct conf.

You'll just want to switch back to the MySQL sessions then - something is messed up with your instal or firewall.

firewall wasnt even installed i installed it allowed 2 way communication with port
still
