It has been at least a year since I have been on JR site! Where is my PM inbox? I am totally lost. Are all the post from years back totally gone?

old stuff is still here, its just moved to:
http://archive.jamroom.net/

you can get to all the JR4 stuff there.

There is no PM inbox here. Just the forums. Backstage is still there for subscribers:
https://www.jamroom.net/backstage/forum

If your just getting started with JR5 check out the documentation:
http://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/

and maybe you want to watch videos, there is a course here that will walk you through the new systems.

"Start Your Own Online Community"
https://www.udemy.com/start-your-own-online-community

If you just want an overview, try:
"JR4 to JR5"
http://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/jr4-to-jr5

Michael I would like to know if I purchase the JR4 import to JR5 will my site custom layout be included in that service? I am using nova and would like to continue using Nova. How does the service work?

Customizations made to a JR4 skin will not be moved over to the JR5 skin during an import.

During an import all the profile data is moved over along with the song files and images and database info.

That data then comes out on whatever skins exist in the system. Since JR4 skins don't work with JR5, you would need to use a JR5 skin.

Nova skin has been created for JR5, so its there but any custiomizations and alterations you have made to your JR4 skin would need to be done again to your JR5 skin.

The "Event Tracer" module already exists.

"Event Tracer"
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/networkmarket/92/event-tracer

You would need to turn on 'downloads' in the config, then the trace data will be available via the standard listing function:

"{jrCore_list}"

The event tracer "logs" events to a datastore, then allows those events to be listed. One of it's events is "file downloaded", so it should work.

The trace data will be available via the standard listing function:

"{jrCore_list}"
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/development/89/jrcore-list

so you can make that into any format you want.

Ok so if an artist is inside there CP and a radio station for example "wosm fm" downloaded there new single I want that artist to see that FM Call letter displayed in there CP?]

Where will this function show? This new JR has made a huge change and maybe way to complicated. I get it setup on my site right now where artist can see who is downloading there song.

Maybe I am just confused what I am trying to explain.

I think your just unfamiliar with JR5.

There is no 'control panel' in JR5.

Try this course to get you up to speed with JR5:

"Start Your Own Online Community"
https://www.udemy.com/start-your-own-online-community

or pick and choose from some of the videos on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/user/jamroomdotnet

Quote: Where will this function show?
You can put it wherever you like. perhaps a template in the skins called site.com/download-data

This doc has an example very close to what your after; using the users profile id to get some data from the datastore.

"use {capture} to avoid using another file for {jrCore_list} calls"
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/howto/1637/howto-use-capture-to-avoid-using-another-file-for-jrcore-list-calls

So let me ask this? I am currently using JR 4 will I have to purchase a new skin pack, payment pack for JR 5? I would think since I have already purchased these in the past I would get those features free as they update? If not that really stinks!

Er, Jamroom is a business, not a charity. Have you tried the same argument with Microsoft/Apple when they bring out major upgrades?
The team spend many, many hours every week supporting their customers and writing code.
Jamroom5 Core is free. The SuperPack includes all the modules you'll need (and more) at a bargain 45% discount.
Hope that helps

My argument is I have already purchased payment pack, skin pack, 100 artist, and a few more in the past. My question is are these irrelevant to me. I would think since precious Jamroom users have already purchased many of the packs and products it would make them a license holder for just upgrades. So everytime a new update comes out I will have to pay for it?

Between MAJOR upgrades, yes. All upgrades within Jamroom5 are free. Ie. Users paid to upgrade Jamroom2 to3, 3 to 4, and now 4 to 5, the same as you pay to go from Windows7 to 8.
The SuperPack was on sale for half price for 8 months during JR5's beta period and many users took advantage of that.
Shoot us an email and as an old customer, we may be able to sort something out for you. Or, you could stay with JR4 - its still supported.

Better than nearly $400 if you were to buy the modules and skins individually ;-)

So I need to repurchase everything I already own since JR 5 is new?

I support a lot of software designed for web use and can't understand
why you think using a completely different version automatically qualifies you for an upgrade?

These guys spend a lot of time re-vamping the existing software to bring it into the modern sector.

The base code has always been free, if you want more, than you pay for it.
Any software is going to change and still support the older software for a period.
They upgrade because times change and they follow whats happening with the web.
If you had a Space Invaders script from the 80's would you still expect it to be a free upgrade?

If you are on jr4, Stay there as it ...works
If you wish to upgrade to the newer version
1...its free....
2...they have jr4 import tools....
3...You will need to purchase the latest modules if you want your site to work better than it does now.

JR5 is completely different than JR4.

JR5 is completely re-written code which only works in its own environment.
It's like saying I have programmes I bought for windows XP , Why cant I use them with windows 8?

Simple answer: A lot of work has gone into the newer versions and for a free software you have to keep these guys alive for them to keep updating and making them work with your new software ( OS ).

As @brian said, Discounts are applied for current users of JR4 which is great.
But at the end of the day, You need to work out...Should I upgrade or stay with what I have got.

If you upgrade and need more than the free version than expect to pay for the up to date software that only works with that version.
Otherwise stay where you are.

Just my 2 cents anyway as it irks me when people complain about free software with paid add ons.
A lot of work has gone into the JR5 software and although it's free it should be recognised as a new product.
Not an add on for JR4.

Cheers

PS. When Jamroom 6 comes out I will be buying my modules again...Why?
Because these guys have done the ground work and know whats current.
Their software is free apart from the modules.
If you want free, than build your site with the basic version.
Don't expect any updates for a different version.
If you truly want to support this project, than any new version you would be happy to support.

We used to offer a service like this, but the problem is that it ends up being a game of tag with the hosting provider.

I would try to contact JBServers and have them work with you (I know you indicated you were waiting on help from them, so you may need to give them time).

Thanks!
