Pre Sales questions

Hi there, a couple of years back we purchased Jamroom 4 and had it installed to www.salonetruefans.co.uk
We now see that Jamroom 5 has been released and we would like to upgrade without loosing our current members and artists plus their songs, merchandise etc.
We really like the template http://www.mixposure.com/ It looks great! Although we may choose a different skin.

I have just a few questions though

1. Can artists have categories for their music? So they can be found based on the genre they play?
2. Can we customise the main background colour or image and overall colour scheme from the site admin?
3. Will artsits still be able to sell merchandise in the store? Are any Jamroom 4 features now no longer available in 5?
4. How much would it cost us for you to upgrade the site from Jamroom 4 to Jamroom 5 for us without loosing our current content, members, artist, songs, videos etc.

5. What languages can we set the site to? I see the demo features spanish and US english

I see we will also have to upgrade our hosting on JB Servers to Jamroom 5 hosting. This is not a problem.
Please get back to us with a quote.

Many thanks!!!

Hello,

1. Yes, there is an audio genre field.

2. Yes, the skins are setup to change colors within the ACP (Admin Control Panel)

3. Yes, however Jamroom 5 uses a FoxyCart module, you may want to check this out before making your move. https://www.jamroom.net/download/search?q=FoxyCart

4. This would depend on which modules/bundle you'll need to run your site. Jamroom 5 is a module setup now, even the core is a module. The core is free and then you can either purchase the modules you need...

https://www.jamroom.net/download/modules

or a bundle that would save you some money....

https://www.jamroom.net/download/bundles

5. Jamroom 5 can be setup for multiple languages but there is only a Spanish and English file right now, we can't translate the file for obvious reason, but there are instructions on how to translate and setup the links in the skins readme file.

Hope this helps,
Douglas

Also, we provide services for installing and importing your Jamroom 4 site. Jamroom 4 skins and modules will not work with Jamroom 5.

There is really no upgrade from 4 to 5.

You'll install JR5, in a separate directory than JR4, then you can import your profiles, users and media from your JR4 install. After that you can make sure your JR5 site is setup the way you want it before removing your JR4 install and possibly moving your JR5 site to your root if you so desire.

Hope this helps,
Douglas

Just to add to Douglas's advice, to upgrade, first purchase the Super Pack at
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/bundle/9/super-pack
If you want us to install JR5 and upgrade your JR4 site to it, buy the appropriate import service -
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/serviceshop
Be sure to read all the sections in 'Moving from JR4 to JR5' at
https://www.jamroom.net/docs
particularly about Foxycart if your JR4 site sells downloads as the shopping cart is now a subscription service. An alternative to this is the jrPayPal module

Ok, sounds complex. How about the hosting at JB servers? Our Jamroom 4 is hosted on Jamroom 4 Hosting on the 10gb package. They now have a Jamroom 5 hosting option which is what I assume we'll have to switch to right?

Also, yes we sell music from our site. The URL is http://salonetruefans.co.uk/

We just want a guaranteed way to do this upgrade without loosing our member's content. We're afraid to delete files or tamper with anything since we're not programmers. We don't want a subscription service for our payment processor, since we only sell 2 or 3 songs a month. So if we get this jrPayPal module will it be the same as our current site? Currently we are only using the paypal processor anyway, we are happy with it.

We are mainly doing this because we really like the skin "Maestro 3" Can we purchase this skin for Jamroom 4? If not, can you guys do the upgrade and transfer for us?

The JR4 -> JR5 import service we offer here:

https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/serviceshop

won't lose any of your data. It will "import" all the data from your JR4 site to your new JR5 site - as long as you have corresponding modules in JR5 for what you have in JR4. We can do the install of JR5 on your new site as well - you'd just want to get the Install service on the same page.

The PayPal module would work great if you're only selling a couple of tracks a month.

As for the skin, the Maestro 3 skin is developed and support by N8Flex:

https://www.jamroom.net/n8flex/networkmarket

We can install it for you if you already have a JR5 license for it - any questions on customizing or using the skin should be posted to the N8Flex forum.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your Reply. Our client would like to know if it is possible to still purchase skins and features for her old Jamroom 4 website? One feature she requests is can the current site be made responsive so it displays properly on a mobile phone? Also, is the Maestro 3 skin in Jamroom 5 responsive to tablets, smart phones etc? In a nutshell, our client wants the cheapest option.

JR4 modules and skins are no longer available for purchase, as they are no longer being developed or improved.

None of the existing JR4 skins support this (although you could customize it to suit your needs if you know how to do it). JR5 is responsive in all skins.

I believe it is, but to be sure you'd want to ask on the N8Flex forum:

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your replay. I signed up in the demo site of Maestro 3. How do I sign us as an artist? Is this feature not longer available? With our old site we set it up so artists can sign up, but only after we send them the correct link. Is this still possible?

Also, our client requests to see a working version of the Maestro 3 skin with the paypal purchase option activated. She would like to see the checkout process.

Finally, does it still allow us to use the payout option to send the artists their money once they've sold enough mp3?

Sure - you can call your accounts anything you want in JR5 - "members", "artists", whatever - JR5 no longer makes any distinction between "member" and "artist" accounts.

Again, you will want to work with N8Flex:

https://www.jamroom.net/n8flex/forum

the Maestro skin is not a skin we have created, or support.

chrisukba:

Yes - but you must use the FoxyCart eCommerce module for this, which does require a separate subscription to FoxyCart:

https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/networkmarket/70/foxycart-ecommerce

Hope this helps!

Can we not use the payout option using the paypal plugin?
Must we use FoxyCart? Our client only sells 2 - 3 songs per month.

Also regarding this question:

(How do I sign us as an artist? Is this feature not longer available? With our old site we set it up so artists can sign up, but only after we send them the correct link. Is this still possible?

We only want artists to upload mp3s, members can only comment. This is still the same right? We can customize permissions?

Thanks!

Yes - in order to support payouts (which means as the site owner you collect the money, then distribute it) you must use the FoxyCart module, since it is the "full featured" solution we offer for Jamroom 5.

If your site only sells 2-3 songs a month, then just use the regular PayPal module and let the payments go directly to the artist - no need to be the "middle man" if you are only doing that type of volume.

Yes - none of that has changed. You would just uncheck the option for "Allowed on profile" in the Audio module -> Quota Config for those quotas you do not want to allow access to audio.

JR5 is just as flexible as JR4 (and more so) in regards to quotas.

Hope this helps!
