Are there any other options other than MailGun? I'm having way too many problems communicating with my members. I ran the MailGun verification prior to sending my first newsletter. The Jamroom analytics showed a 1.4% bounce rate out of nearly 15,000 emails. MailGun disabled my account reporting 14% bounce. I opened a support ticket at MailGun and was told I need to run an email verification suck as Kickbox. When I commented that I ran the MailGun validation, I was told that MailGun only checks the syntax and not the validity of the email. So....I ran Kickbox and asked to have my account enabled. They enabled it and within 2 minutes disabled it again....with this message You are sending too fast

Your account is on probation and domains are limited to 100 messages / hour. To maintain the rate the account has been temporarily disabled.

The account will be enabled in 2689 seconds.

Thank you,
Mailgun Team
Apparently the hundreds of password reset requests from the welcome newsletter (guessing here) were in queue and when they turned on MialGun they began to process....? Not sure about that. If anyone has any input I would love it. I've been communicating with my members, many of them for over 9 years without any issues. Now I can't seem to do so.
Frustrated!

Sorry to hear about this Jeff - I know you contact us via ticket, but wanted to add here that this has been one of the biggest issues for Ning imports. Ning does no email validation to ensure an email address is still valid, and consequently many, many accounts are likely to have bad email addresses. We're going to have to readjust our recommendations based on the feedback you received from Mailgun and make sure imported Ning sites use Kickbox for email validation and NOT Mailgun.

Brian,
Agree. That's the way to proceed. In my case 9 years a long time to not have the email database cleaned. There should be no problems going forward. Kickbox is the way to go.

Jeff, one tip-
I have the free kickbox 100/per day email checking set on my site, and I created a separate QUOTA (cloned off of regular member quota) I named InvalidEmail. Your Kickbox module has a setting in its Test Email tool whereby you can have it automatically dump members with invalid addresses from each day's 100 test into that special Quota -and turn OFF all their notifications at the same time. This is very useful, because it will filter those members with bad email addys into a quota where you can identify them and decide what to do or just delete them.
You can pay a fee to have Kickbox test all your members at one shot (which I did before migrating from ning to go live). BUT, keeping that 100/per day kickbox tool on and active will ensure that in the future all your member emails are getting properly validated and bad ones are filtered into a visible category with their notif.s turned OFF. You can look over your InvalidEmail Quota once in a while to deal with members who fail the email test. I'm always interested to see members popping up in there.

Wondering if it's good advice or not for me to also suggest- in your jrMailer email module there is a global config where if you are about to send out a newsletter to say all 15,000 members, you can TEMPORARILY throttle the sending of the email to say 5 or 10 per minute. This helps avoid the wrath of mailgun -at least it did when i sent out 5,000 invite/passwords to my new jr site members. Set it back to disabled when all done in your queue. Maybe jrTeam can correct me if this is not helpful advice.

Yet another Ning lameness to not provide a way to 'ever' validate email addresses.

Just an FYI that Kickbox no longer has a "100 free checks daily" account level - you get 100 free checks with your account TOTAL now. So make sure you keep your account topped up.

Brian- did this just happen in the last 2 weeks with Kickbox? Because my kickbox seems to have still been dumping invalid email members as I set it to, and my Activity Log shows it's still working every night.

No - it happened a few months ago. However, anyone that signed up BEFORE then gets the 100 per day still.
