Question about Cometchat and PHP7

Hi everyone,
I am currently running the old version of Cometchat (the new version didn't function well on my site). What I need to know is if anyone else is running the old version of Cometchat, but made the upgrade to Jamroom's PHP7 and how it's running. I have asking this question to Cometchat for 4 days straight now, and I can't get an answer out of them.
Thanks,
Perrie~

I believe strumelia has updated to php7 and is running , but don't know what version, I assume she has kept things up to date as she normally appears to. Just bear in mind if there is an issue it will be very unlikely but not impossible, they will fix it for an older version.

Maybe she can provide more insight.

Thanks Gary... I'm hoping that Strumelia is going to check in soon.

Hi Perrie!
I would have no idea what you mean by 'the old version" or the "new version"...there are a whole bunch of versions.
I bought the Premium version of CC back in maybe May 2015...before they made a JR module of their Basic version available. Mine was not cheap...but it came with a 1 year of upgrades and support, and I made sure to update it just before my 1 year was up and I no longer had free upgrades and tech support.

So for the past 6 months or so I've been using version 5.7.0 premium. I'm still on Jamroom 5, but the JR Team upgraded my server to php7 and CC is still working fine so far. I currently have no compelling reason to pay more $ to update my CChat unless something stops working. Which I imagine it will when it gets old and incompatible with stuff.

but- Now that you've brought this subject up, I'm wondering whether my CChat will continue to function ok when i upgrade from JR5 to JR6....I was thinking of doing that next week in fact.
Now I wonder if suddenly my CC will stop working when i switch to JR6....anyone know?

JR5 to JR6 will not effect comet chat at all. php5 to php7 may have though.

I didn't notice any talk on the chat log on my site about problems with the chat function- one of my moderators is on chat every day, twice a day...and has not so far reported any issues to me.
Should be noted that I'm 'not' on the Basic CC version that comes via the jr Cometchat module...I'm on an older Premium CC version. I'm on the JR php7 for the past week or two already.

Hi Strumelia,
At this point I am not sure which version of Cometchat actually have. They tried to install the newest upgrade (looked a lot like facebook or phone texts), but it would freeze up my site. So I had to beg them to remove it and after 2 weeks of back and forth with them, they installed some older version, but I am unsure if it was the same version I purchased back in 10/2015. It was CometChat Premium Edition. That is all the information I have on it from Cometchat and I have looked in their forum and can't find any answers there either. All I know is that it is a verson younger than 5.7 and I was afraid to do any of their upgrades since it took them nearly a month to straighten out the issues with the original installation.
Anyway, I am not sure where that leaves me. I did rebuy cometchat, so maybe I should go to PHP7 and see what happens?
Ugh.. a bit of a mess.

Just to confirm- I heard back from my 'chat moderator' just now who is on chat several times a day. He says he has not seen any problems at all since I moved to php7 like what...two weeks ago now? But that's with my older CC Premium version, not the jrModule CC Basic version.
Just for your info.

Perry- If you log into your CC Admin Panel on JR (where you can edit your chat settings)...it tells you your version number in giant text. When you say you 're-bought' CC... did you buy the $49 jr module's Basic version?...or did you buy the 50% off newer version of Premium (which is decidedly more expensive)? My policy is if it aint broke don't fix it. I dont really need the fancy stuff on CC's newer versions anyway, thus I stuck with what i had working correctly on my site- it is still working fine, at least on JR 5. It's only like a year old anyway. I'll know after I move to JR 6 whether my older Premium version still works fine- I suspect it will and Michael says he feels it will be fine as well.

Hi Strumelia,

Strumelia,
Thanks for the 411. I have logged onto that page a dozens of times and never noticed it. I am running 5.6.3. After two weeks of begging, I finally got an answer from them last night and they said PHP7 is not compatible with this version. Now I have to ask them to upgrade me to at least 5.7, since you're telling me that it works with 5.7. One last question... how much activity does your chat get? Mine is heavily used. Also can you please show me a screenshot of what your chat looks like? I am wondering what the difference is.
And since you are doing all that for me, can you pick me up some cat food, too? ;)

Perry- my chat is used both morning and night by about average a dozen members every day- those people change over time.
See a screenshot of my chat here: https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/new_posts/46917/auto-join-main-chat-room but note I have changed the colors to match my site, in my CC admin settings.

If i were you, I'd upgrade to php7 first to see if your chat breaks. Why? because I dn't necessarily believe what CC support tells me. If it breaks then pursue getting them to upgrade to 5.7. It's quite possible it'll just keep working fine.
Worse case scenario is that you'll be without a chat for a week or two. Best case scenario is that you can avoid having to deal with getting them to upgrade you again and get everything working right on the newer version.
Cat food: sorry, we have a snowstorm going on (ugh). You'll have to give your cats cheerios or something.
