Hello again.

We have the JamRoom 6 set up, Ningja skin, developer mode.

In Latest activity, this just appeared:
(see attached)

But when I visit Gerard's profile page, Leyla is NOT showing as a follower (Leyla's account is NOT yet active.

Why does the activity stream say "Leyla is now following Gerard" INSTEAD of "Gerard is now following Leyla"?

[Note: We do have the auto follow feature installed -- which will become one of my favorite features, by the way; I LOVE it! -- but only one of my profiles/my user name, is listed for auto follow.]

I'll send a second screenshot to show Gerard's page

Glitch?

Here's Gerard's page... Leyla is NOT following him (yet), though I'm sure she will once she registers here after we go live.

I don't know all the details, but ...perhaps some confusion about the fact that inactive members' content and actions on the site will not be seen by non-admin members?

We'll check it out, thanks.

Hope you're members are OK with being test subjects holly. For everyone else, make sure you've read brians advice on JR6 at this point:
brian:
Just to add: Please make sure you test Jamroom 6 on your DEVELOPMENT site before upgrading ANY "live" or production site to Jamroom 6. This is FIRST beta of Jamroom 6 and there are likely to be issues that could have an impact on how your site works.
We want to find out any issues and fix them up before you upgrade your live site.

The skin that is the most ready for JR6 is the "Follow Me" skin.

The rest will probably have issues, thanks for reporting this.

Our members are used to being confused (about English, since we're a language-learning site. :)

And our members are somewhat used to being confused by me (as I'm quite sure you can sympathize with... I do tend to be impulsive). [self-deprecating grin]

I'll hope that many of the little oddities (like "X is following Y" instead of "Y is following X") will be cleared up before we go live.

It will probably not surprise any of you to learn that my/our list of 'pre-launch' tasks is proving time-consuming. Ning issues continue, and activity on our Ning site has dwindled by 75% or more this week... we truly feel the urgency to go live.

It's a constant balance of "what MUST be done before we invite everyone?" and "dare we invite them all before JamRoom 6 is out of beta?" and "dare we wait much longer?" [I and others have worked so hard to build our community, I fear that if too much momentum is lost, if we wait too long, we will lose members.]

For the first couple of months, that list of "things we must fix/customize before going live" might acquire new items at the same rate as you are ticking off items you've already completed. Thus, that list will not likely shrink a lot for a while yet- your site will still be evolving and getting polished for the first several months. That list is like an infuriating amoeba, shifting and morphing even as you look at it. Eventually the amoeba consumes itself altogether and no longer matters- but likely that'll be way after you want to go live.
My own advise would be to grab the top 3-6 things off that list as it is now, and make a firm decision to go live once those things are addressed.
In my opinion, it really helps to make your members feel like they are part of the process- give them a forum category or a group for 'site questions and issues'. Let them know they can ask there how to do stuff on the new site, and that they can also helpfully report site glitches and/or make suggestions. But- know that more than half the 'bugs' they report will in fact simply be things they don't yet understand yet about how the new platform works.
But you can provide a place for them to give their feedback, learn the new functions, where they can feel useful and like someone's listening.
There's a lot to be said for arriving at the party on time with your hair still a bit mussy, as opposed to arriving late with perfect hair but finding the most interesting people have already gone home.

Thanks, Strumelia,
Of course... these are all expected for awhile (that 'awhile' was still going on on our Ning site!).
We have a few members here in the JamRoom developer site exploring and asking us now... they'll be our site mentors when we go live...

The new chat has been a busy bee haven of comments/questions, and thanks to Joanna's observation of some other JamRoomer (we've been viewing other JamRoom sites for ideas), we have at the top position of our JRdiscussion forum a category titled, "How do I....? [LEWWWP site help]" -- and our FAQ header link takes you directly there.

We're getting closer. I'll probably be adding more questions about Terms of Service and Sign up questions later today (unless today is the day I finally figure out whatever I'm not doing right there). Those are critical. Jo's got her 'must' list almost done. We're getting there, just not fast enough for idealistic me.

Thanks for the support,

Closing this ticket... solved.

We went live just about 24 hours ago, and are having fun, despite a few remaining 'not figured out yet' challenges.]
