@american I hope they're lowriders (or that you have a well lit cupboard ready for Feb).

@all Enjoy (and love) your xmas and have max fun (but for the benefit of all you should probably spend less on it next year).

@stevex, do you have kids? I've spent the last 20 years buying my kids presents that normally end up gathering dust.
Some years I ask them, What do you want......They really have no idea as they could ask for a ps4 to a MX Bike.
I worked it out this year and my youngest boys were thrilled.
I said,
Instead of me spending upwards of $1000 on crap you guys don't want/need hows about I give you guys cash and we enjoy our day.
WELL, Didn't that work.
Presents! Forget them. People want to but what they want to buy so don't waste your money! :D
( If thats what you were saying )

Anyway Guys hope everyone had a good chrissie and enjoys the new year :)

No, hopefully not.

About spending less, I meant this:
http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/dec/28/mortgage-rise-homeowners-perilous-debt

People just don't seem to know where they are just before (and after) christmas, especially with xmas/january sales ads everywhere.

The best xmas present (especially for kids imo) is an adventure: Any opportunity to get everything into perspective, any opportunity to see the walls of a potential trap, any brief breathe of freedom.

Happy New Year to all!

I think so many people (Americans especially) look at money as a "destination" - i.e. they will be "happy" once they get there. Quoting Tim O'Reilly:

Quote:
It’s easy to get caught up in the heady buzz of making money. You should regard money as fuel for what you really want to do, not as a goal in and of itself. Money is like gas in the car — you need to pay attention or you’ll end up on the side of the road — but a well-lived life is not a tour of gas stations!

I like that and as an "entrepreneur" for 20 years now, that's how I live: money = freedom :)

It would be hard to explain, but most people don't have that sort of access to money, and even if they did have they'd stand zero chance of being able to buy their freedom with it.

Only freedom=freedom. It doesn't matter how you get there, and there are many ways.

I don't know - I've got a family here (3 daughters) so it's not a singular pursuit at this stage of the game :)
