I know it was mentioned before, but I can't easily find it. What and where are the settings so that discussions don't close?

As admin or forum owner go to the forum page and click on the settings tab, then set 'Forum Auto Lock' to 'Never'.

The URL would be something like this:

www.HypnoThoughts.com/PROFILE/forum/settings

changing PROFILE to the name of the profile the forum is owned by.

yeah, that's not working either. I'm getting "not found" when I try that.

Most people tell me that I'm not stupid, but jamroom really makes me feel like an idiot.

when I use this url:
http://hypnothoughts.com/forum/admin/settings
I get a blank page in the admin panel with only the menu on the left visible.

when I go to:
http://hypnothoughts.com/admin/forum/settings
I get "not found" on my actual site. It doesn't even keep me in the admin panel.

Remember, the profile you created that 'owns' the site forums, you named that profile "community", so try:

http://hypnothoughts.com/community/forum/settings

(...that's what Douglas meant when he typed "PROFILE" in his link above.)
Nice looking site, by the way- you should put it in the JR Showcase. :)

Thank YOU! :) That's exactly what I needed, as it took me to a page I've never seen before that had the correct drop downs (that I had never seen before). I like my chances on this one.

Thanks for saying my site looks good, while I didn't make it, I worked with my developer really closely on the style. I'm happy to share it if people will keep helping me get all the bugs worked out of my import and help me manage this new system. I started a conversation about it here:

Did you get your Group Pages re-associated with their respective Groups after your Ning import? That's a little chore that we need to do by hand, but there is a JR tool to do it- as long as you know which group each page belongs in. You have that info from your ning site still?- or else if there aren't that many group Pages, you can remember which group each page belongs to?

I'll look into that, as I had a few wrinkles with the groups transfer.

My big issue with groups was the amount of files that had been uploaded to quite a few of my high profile groups. Those, apparently, don't get included in the file Ning provides. I don't know what to do about that.

Goto your Jamroom profile page and click on the Sites button to add your site to the Showcase pages here - https://www.jamroom.net/hypnoscott/mysites - If you say something good about JR in the site description it'll certainly get accepted lol

I imported your site from Ning a few months ago and I recall it went well. What files are missing? You imply that they are not in the archive anyway? I know Ning don't archive some things but am not aware of any un-archived files?
Thanks

Hi paul,
I'll do that now. The stuff I'm missing is files that were uploaded inside groups. Lots of files were there, now there are none. from what I understand Ning doesn't include them in the archive.

Your site approved and showing in the showcase/members section (I took a screenshot of your homepage and added that) - thanks.
Is this an image embedded in a comment? Can you point me to where something is missing so that I can check it out?

Here's an example of a group with something missing. Sometimes it's embedded media (picture, youtube, etc) often it's a file that was uploaded to the discussion.

http://hypnothoughts.com/richardnongardcom/group_discuss/2326/grief-and-loss-nlp-pattern-demonstration

That group is one of the two that has the most cases of this.

Not sure if you guys can see this, but here's a thread from a few months ago on my site about this issue, perhaps it will help in some way:

Discussions are still closing. I just double checked the forum settings and it still says it is set to "never." Do I have to go back and manually open everything?
paul

Yes, it might be that discussions that have been auto-closed prior to the 'never' being set will need to be reopened by hand.

796 to be precise (I just looked at your database) ;-)
Do you want me to run a query on your forum database table to unlock all the locked discussions?

thank you very much. I'm confused and grateful. I'd rather have 800 working discussions than 1000 discussions that can only be accessed 30 or so at a time.

Much appreciated.

unrelated but I have your attention :)

the like/dislike thing still won't show who liked a post. when you click the number next to the upvote button it darkens the screen but doesn't display anything

Is this a different question? One issue per thread helps us and others :-)

So you want more than 30 topics/posts listed per page? Please clarify.

This is a custom CSS thing. I temporarily switched your site to the stock Elastic skin and it works fine, so something custom that you have done to the CSS and/or skin templates is messing things up.

-- NO. I like how it is. Thanks for your help.

My CSS is messing it up somehow. Ok. I'll see what I can do to have that figured out. Thank you for the insight. I was afraid of that.
