Replacing Upload interface

I want to replace the existing upload with a more modern one with drag-n-drop capabilities as well as a dropbox chooser. Is there an easy way to do this while retaining the existing module/quota capabilities?

The existing one probably does drag and drop, I remember spending a while trying to get rid of the css dropzone in an alternate skin a few months back.
