The "Site Search" widget in Site Builder beta is wonderful.

It allows us to show a selected range of search fields on one page, targeting many different areas of site content, e.g. Profile blogs, Profile forums, Group pages, Group Discussions, etc. ... depending on what kinds of content have been enabled for the site.

I have started using this to design a "Search Central" page for my network.

The biggest failing I see here is that we cannot easily use the setup to search the profile data forms that members are asked to fill out in order to describe themselves to others in the network.

In addition to using the Site Search widget to target all the different modules enabled in our site, I wish the widget could be used to target public profile data in specific quotas, e.g. Quota "Regular Member", "Profile update form"

(I still haven't mastered designing the profile update forms for specific quotas and making these public with a nice layout, but that's a matter for another thread. Unless the process can be simplified, I will need to employ a developer to do this work).

This is part of the profile data, and is all searchable - you just need to add those fields to the Search -> Global Config -> Additional Search Fields setting.

Hope this helps!

Would the fields then become part of the global search system?

That's OK, but my interest is in beng able to set this up specifically as a Member Profile Data Search option, inside the Site Builder widget.

Being able to search on other member data is perhaps the primary function of most social networks. Making it as easy as possible to set up would be attractive to many JR administrators.

In any case, I'm sure it can be done with the help of a developer eventually, so that's good.

Thanks, Peter

No problem :)
