Cometchat setup

I've installed the basic Cometchat module. It seems to be working as I can create a room and chat, but I can't seem to log in to the module's admin area to change any settings (I'm already logged in to Jamroom). When I click Forgot Password it tells me to change ADMIN USER or something in config.php, but there isn't anything like that there.

While still logged into your JR site, you need to access your CC admin panel using your Cometchat account credentials (your Cometchat account username and password), NOT your JR login info. Are you doing that?

I need to set up an account on Cometchat?

Hmm...my situation is likely different from yours then. I got Cometchat before they had a jamroom module, so yes I had to set up a CC account at first. The CC control panel at that time was online outside of JR- not inside a JR module. So I used to have to log into the CC website to access controls or support.
Then they made the JR CC module, and I got them to make the necessary transition adjustments for me to using the newer CC JR version. They switched me over.
BUT- I found when I went to log into the CC admin panel in my JR CC module, that I had to fill in my login info from my original CC account, which I can actually no longer use online at "my.cometchat.com" anymore. That's what works for me.

Question- is the basic CC version paid THROUGH Jamroom?...meaning you don't need to create a CC account at all anymore?

Sounds like you need to contact CC support to get your proper login credential info or to ask them what to do. I think you normally file help tickets through your CC admin panel, which you can't access....so email the CC support at:
support(at)inscc.zendesk(dot)com
They are pretty good about responding and following through. But remember they are at work in India when people in the USA are asleep, so expect a time lapse in communicating.

Thanks, strum. I've been reading your travails in another cometchat thread here. It sounded like you had things sorta sorted. This appears to be nice software with odd issues in places.

The cc admin panel on still outside jam room. It's just iframed in.

Cometchat has a default admin login which you should change as soon as logging in.

I like the CC program, and my chat-loving members like it too.
Once you have it set up/installed properly, it should be good. The thing is that CC has only recently got this Jamroom module thing going, so not so unusual to have a few growing pains. Once I got the hang of firing off my tech support questions stated clearly, before going to bed, and reading/seeing their responses in the morning, I was more confident.
When I first installed it I had several stubborn problems as you probably read, but the CC tech team hung with the long ticket, didn't give up, followed through and eventually fixed each issue. So that's good enough for me. I really like the fact that CC is now integrated a bit within JR. They are likely more experienced now with CC issues particular to Jamroom than they were when I first jumped in.

i like it too only i wish it was as easy to customize it so it looks like it matches my site. that was what i loved so much about chatwing was how simple you could change everything about it every font every color size etc. but for a simple facebook style chat comet is good enough.

You can customize the colors and sizes etc... but you have to create a custom Theme for yourself- the tools are in the ccAdmin settings panel. Takes a little trial and error but I did it and i'm no genius. lol

I know I checked the admin panel I can only access a portion of it the rest is hidden behind jamroom for some reason and I can't scroll down to get to the rest of the options. They told me to edit the css but I just don't have time for all that.

Yes i have the same scrolling problem- cannot scroll down to get to the 'save' button for one settings page in particular. Maybe because i am on a large desktop monitor I only have that issue in one CC settings page. That must be fixed somehow. If we all open CC tickets about it this week maybe?

yup, its in an iframe.

You can get anything out of an iframe by right clicking it and selecting:
"This Frame" -> "Show only this frame"

--edit--
Or if thats too hard to locate on your browser ( get firefox ) you can use a direct link:
YOUR-SITE.com/modules/ccCometChat/contrib/cometchat/admin/index.php?module=dashboard

The height of 700 is hard coded in the iframe tag within modules/ccCometChat/index.php.

You could manually change that if you want.

its setup to be auto-resize on the height of the iframe. There was an issue with the code, it only needed a tweak, so i've tweaked it and am sending them the code now.

It should be fixed in an upcoming version.

There is another issue at work here that Cometchat will have to be careful of.
The CC BASIC (cheaper) version is identified with version 5.6.2 etc. HOWEVER, some of us have the more expensive Premium version - current version is 1.0.1

We just went through a whole icky ordeal of having the CC Basic version updates appearing in our ACP update areas, and those of us with premium CC versions who clicked on it found their chat totally messed up. I believe you or Brian finally helped CC to correct the issue and NOT have the CC Basic updates show up for us Premium version users.

I read the ticket you linked to with your instructions to them. If CC is now fixing this iframe code, and if they are following your recommended naming procedure for the update... they'll need to fix it for BOTH the Basic users and the Premium users...and the update versions will have to be named separately and accordingly- my update for example would supposedly be named 1.0.2, NOT 5.6.3.

I am not seeing any CC update in my ACP area yet, so if they did fix the code already, they may have fixed it in the basic CC version but not in the Premium version.
5.6... Basic CC versions should now NOT be showing up in my update area. I have the iframe problem too, so would need an update for the CC Premium version- my current CC version is 1.0.1. Can this somehow be made clear to them through that same ticket?

Yeah, they got that sorted. What they've done is to change the module name here in the marketplace for the basic version.

Now there is no premium version here in the jamroom marketplace, so it wont be updated/updatable from the marketplace.

Only the basic version is in the marketplace, so only that can be updated via the marketplace. The premium version will have its own module name. So what version each is will not matter.

BASIC: Updatable via the marketplace
PREMIUM: Updatable via ftp only.

Hmm...sounds way less convenient for Premium owners. =8-\

I still have a JR Cometchat Module...at least it appears so. But it won't be getting updates? The premium version is supposed to include updates for a year after purchase. I'm a bit confused...

Two questions please-
1) how will I know when/if i need to update my CC from now on?
2) are they going to fix this iframe code for us premium users?...when?, and how?

Dang !

To put a module in the marketplace its less convenient for them. The situation is there is a 10% charge to cover the cost of using our payment system, then sending them the money for any sales when sales happen.

I'm sure they would prefer if you purchased directly from them. To keep these charges at a minimum, they only offer the basic version of their module in the marketplace currently. Then if you want to upgrade you pay them directly.

So the module in the marketplace is easier to setup and get going, but less convenient to keep updated with updates.

Its a trade-off I guess. The marketplace also doesn't have that "you only get 1 year of updates" ability built in.

1: not sure, thats a question for them. The answer will be "the same as non-jamroom module users". however that is.
2: I would expect so, its the same code for the marketplace version and their premium I believe.

Thanks so much Michael.
I applied your code fix to my CC index.php via FTP, and it WORKS- fixed the iframe problem for me. :)
I will open a CC ticket to ask them about my question 1). They might need to refine how to fix bugs for Premium users who are within Jamroom setting.
But this particular prob was fixed for me thanks to your sharing your code HERE. Thank you!

Nope, I had the same experience, and so did my moderator on her iPad. It does not seem to recognize or accept my site URL despite my being logged in as site owner. Annoying.

Chances are very slim that cometchat is going to read this thread, probably best to tell them on their own site.

Good point Michael.
I had some other issues, so I filed a CC ticket and pointed them here to the mobile app issue Zach raised, as part of my current support issues I'm asking them about.

If you are still having issues with log in user name/password- you can click on the ccCometchat folder on your server- then select the config.php file and scroll down to where it says
user_name Cometchat
password-cometchat
and change it there to your user name and password then save it...does the same thing as using the admin panel
I have been using cometchat awhile now -started with the stand alone version and today i am installing the Jamroom module version
Both are full of bugs and headaches...had I not already purchas3ed it in the past i would not be trying to use it now-its really crap.
I have been the last 3 hours trying to add the Facebook API the Google API and the Twitter API for log in....copy/paste the credentials in at least 20 times using 3 different browsers and click update...then they disappear... finally got them to "stick" ( still not sure how) BUT they do not work...somehow they are using the url http://mysite.com and changing it to http://mysite.comhttp...I know the APIs are working fine because I use them on another site and for social sharing on this site...so its just frustrating BS you have to deal with when using COMETCHAT....EVERYTIME i try to work in it to tweak anything...it does not work. Good luck man

Ugg.. I'm reading through this and now I am totally confused as to which package to buy, that will give me the least amount of problems for my site. I was going to buy what is now called "professional", but it seems like it may be buggy and I go live around Wens. of next week. It seems that the basic is easier to install, but harder to update. And I am not sure I understand this scrolling issue. Ideas?
