We've just gone live with our site and in the first 24 hours it has sent out around 2500 emails !!

A few users are complaining that they have turned off notifications but are still receiving them for discussions they have commented on.

Is there a delay ie part of the daily maintenance routine, before it takes effect ?

Cheers

Dave

There shouldn't be a delay before user notification changes take effect.
Have you checked the accounts of the users who say they have disabled them to make sure they have actually done it?

The users I have checked have their notifications turned off.

There is one user who has notifications turned ON but has turned the topic notification off on a topic but is still receiving them for that topic.

I've got all mine turned off and am not receiving anything so I'm a bit bemused by it all !

Apparently even if users turn off the the topic notification on a topic, as soon as they post again on it, it turns the notification back on again.

It's already starting to cause some grief !!

Just done some testing on our test system.

Turned off all notifications and then went to update a topic. Topic notification was then turned on for that topic by the act of posting.

I then used another user to update the same topic and the above user then received a notification.

Can we get this updated so that the topic notification does not get turned on every time the user posts.

I think it would be good if notifications were turned off by default and then the user can select it to be on on a per topic basis.

Just my opinion, but I think that's something that ought to be customized if one wants all notifications OFF by default. I know my members seem to get very upset and feel left out when they DON't get notifications...and as so many of my members are seniors, they are not too knowledgeable about adjusting their own settings.
I have been a member of some other social sites that set you automatically to 'follow' any discussion or item when you post or comment in it. I find that VERY convenient myself, and the notification email always has a link at bottom to 'unfollow' the discussion or item.
