add function to DB Backup module...?

So, love the added security of this module and AWS S3 system.
But in the JR module, we have 3 backup choices:
Entire database
Profiles
Modules & Skins

yet in the Restore side of it, we can only choose two options:
Entire database
Profiles

Considering how often I have somehow messed up various skins while learning my way around, wouldn't it be logical to also include just a "Modules and skins" option in the Restore side of the module? Or maybe there's a good reason for it to not be included...?

thanks

It is probably a good idea.

As a suggestion, try this.

Create a directory called "Site Name"
Add a new folder by date: "04.28.15"
Create a folder called "back"
Copy your modules and skins to the back folder before you change anything
Then drag your "working files" into the date dir

This way you always have a backup of what you are working on and the current files easy to access. It also provides a history of changed files and backups. It is easy to roll back to specific date this way.

Create these folders and directories where exactly?...in my Amazon S3 bucket or on my Jamroom server?
And by 'roll back' do you mean physically drag/overwrite, the old fashioned way?

Do it all via ftp and do it locally. With JR unless you are doing full blown development work, I can't see a need for using a source control like git.

So when I am changing stuff on my site, I just use filezilla and copy the files into a dir and create a backup copy of the files I am working on.

Yes I do see your point. But, since I'm using the jr DB module and the AWS S3 anyway, set up with automated daily backups, and since I have the option to set the JR module to back up ONLY skins and modules...well I figured it would make sense to be able to also 'restore' ONLY the skins and modules, as opposed to having to then restore the entire site.

That way if there was just one or two little things changed in the skin that messed up, I could just quickly restore the skin backup from the night before.

I have the same Amazon setup. I think your idea is sound but if I have my backup files in a directory, I only need to replace the changed files not the entire skin.

I suggested this as temporary solution until Brian decides if he will implement your suggestion.

Need to get setup to look into this, but will. It does seam a bit off to have 3 buttons to backup, but only 2 to restore.

I'll be checking this out when I am back in the office next Thursday - I'm currently in the middle of Arizona and have had really sketchy connectivity.

Still hoping to see this 'RESTORE skins and modules' added in. Thanks!
