How much will it REALLY cost?

I'm getting ready to make the switch from Ning to Jam Room, but I'm concerned about cost. It seems like there are a bunch of modules and additions I need to buy in order to make this work.

If I want a responsive design (more akin to what I'm seeing in wordpress themes than anything I've seen on Jam Room) and all my Ning features, what will all this realistically cost me up front and ongoing?

FWIW - my site has about 17,000 members, 900 pages of Discussion Threads, 250 groups, 2,000 YouTube videos.

Hope that helps,
Scott

Hi Scott - welcome to Jamroom!

Cost wise there's 2 ways to go about it:

- get the free core and then buy modules "a la carte" for what you need. You purchase these once and upgrades are free. Total "up front" cost depends on what you need, but a "full" site of modules won't set you back more than about $200, but you provide the hosting.

- if you go with Jamroom hosting, all modules and skins are free for all sites on your server - you can install whatever you want. Hosting starts at $49:

All Jamroom skins are responsive - even the free ones.

Let me know if that helps.

Scott, my personal suggestion-
Go with Jamroom hosting! The support is unequalled, and it's FAST.
For your site, I'd say start with the 2GB server level ($59/month I think)- you can upgrade to slightly higher easily later if you need to.
Then with that hosting plan, you can get all the bundles and modules you want for free, plus VIP support. The basic JR platform comes with a few skins already. Everything is automatically built to be mobile-responsive.

So... you could get the "Ningja Bundle" (with ning-friendly skin and most ning-ish modules you'll need like Groups and Forums), get also the Site Builder bundle, and there will be many other modules you'll probably WANT...all free with your hosting plan.
OK so that's $49, $59 or $89 /month...depending on how big and active your site is... everything included. Except Chat.
I bought Cometchat for a one-time price (get the 'self-hosted' version), and it's working fine on my JR site now.
That's it in a nutshell. :)

Please correct me if I am wrong...but the 3rd party modules ( non jamroom developer modules) like stuff developed by UJ will still cost you in the marketplace...at least that's what I have noticed..

Correct. It's only our modules and skins that are free to use when hosting with us.

All Jamroom skins are 'responsive and work well with mobile devices, but we do not have and 'app' as such.
However, Nate has done some Android work with Jamroom so maybe check him out - https://www.jamroom.net/n8flex/networkmarket

Hey Zack, glad you have come by here! :)

Hey you can start out with the JR entry level hosting server plan (your server managed FOR you by the JR Team) at $49/month. That I believe includes ALL modules you need to do all the same stuff and way MORE than a ning network. I suggest getting the Ning Bundle and Site Builder bundle installed to start out with. (that's all included free if you get the JR hosting plan, right Paul?)
Then one thing you will need that JR has not built yet is a chat feature. I bought a higher priced version of CC because I wanted the mobile apps in it, but there are cheaper versions: https://www.cometchat.com/buy Note that you will be buying cometchat as a ONE TIME purchase...not monthly. You will not be using their monthly 'network/ning' style chat, since it will be on your OWN site, on your server, not piggybacked onto the Ning platform. You will then own the chat software outright and you can choose to update it occasionally (at a price) from CC.

If you choose JR hosting, you will get all the current and future Jamroom-created modules for free. https://www.jamroom.net/hosting
So I bought my chat and it works great (that was actually my biggest cash outlay-!), I'm paying a very reasonable monthly fee to JR for their hosting, backup, all JR modules, and awesome support service (right now the whole shebang is around the same monthly price for me as my Ning network is costing me), and NO other hidden costs or purchases or additional 3rd party apps really needed. Unless I wanted something in particular that Jamroom doesn't offer...but they do offer a large array of module features that are free to you with their JR hosting plan.
Hope this clarifies a couple things for you.
