Do you have a url where I can visit your site and get a feel for page loading times etc.

Thanks - I checked it out. Page loads are indeed "snappy".

It's not really a fair comparison to mine, since I am live and I have more modules enabled, but for sure yours is snappy.

I'm trying to have mine "mirrored over" for a more fair and objective test.

I'm also wondering how much being live effects the "Performance Test" score. I'm typically over 900 on a test, but sometimes drop temporarily for an unidentified reason.

It always shows as the MSQL part of the test going higher, which drags down the overall score.

900 is not bad at all - that's definitely not a "low" score, and most likely when you see it low it means another user on the server is running a "heavy duty" SQL query on the MySQL server that is eating up a lot of CPU cycles, so the JR test is going to take longer to run.

Strumelia,
Is that performance chart the difference between Arvixe and Jamroom? I didn't realize that Jamroom's server was up and running already. Have I missed something?

Jamroom hosting has been in beta for the last 3 weeks or so:

https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/jamroom-hosting/23940/jamroom-hosting-looking-for-a-few-beta-testers

We'll be coming out of beta this coming week. If you're interested in getting setup earlier than that, let us know - shoot us an email at support [at] jamroom [dot] net

Hope this helps!

Just an update (since this was a question I had going in). I've been "live" in Jamroom hosting for a couple weeks now and performance has been rock solid.

I no longer get the drop offs in performance that I experienced at my old host. I can only assume those were being caused by sharing the server with others, and one of his other clients occasionally taxed the MSQL enough to slow down my access.

It was a "beefy" server with 8 cores and 8 gigs of ram. Speed was in 900's when nothing interfered, but unfortunately things interfered all to often. (My last host had "issues").

Now (on Jamroom) I am super fast all the time. My lowest test was in the high 800's, my highest in the 1100's, I am in the high 900's most of the time, and often break 1000.

I have a 50 GB site with most of the available Jamroom modules enabled.

Since I changed from Arvixe to Jamroom hosting, I don't believe I've seen a bottom line score under the 1200s, and I have the lowest performance subscription.

- Server Info -

Server CPU: 2.8 GHz
Server RAM: 988.9MB

- Performance Results -

Processor: 0.39
Database: 4.67
Filesystem: 0.85
Total Score: 1,351

The 1G servers will actually score the highest on this, since there's no OS overhead for multiple processors. I've been doing a lot of testing on this over the last month, and for the most part the more cores you have the (slightly) lower then score will be, and I believe it is due to the OS overhead of handling multiple CPUs. The more processors in your server though, the more you can handle at once - so I will be updating the server performance tool to try and take this into consideration when computing a "final" score, as a 4G server that scores 900 on the test is going to be able to handle a lot more than a 1G server that scores 1200.

Hiya Brian,

First let me say that Strumelia has been one of your biggest advocates for Jamroom. She just love you guys! I have a lot of faith in her judgement as she is one smart lady.

Also, if I seem super cautious, it's because I have wasted a lot of time and money already on platforms that didn't work for me. So please bare with me.

I am not sure which level of VPS I would need, since this is a whole new concept for me. On Ning, I was on the middle level. I am not sure if that translates into anything here.

Hi @perrie

Not sure what 'Ning Middle Level' is but what you'll need to do is look at the size of your Ning archive when you have it downloaded and pick a server size onto which it will fit, but I'd also recommend having some headroom for your site to grow into, and for the server to work with, maybe about 30%. So if your archive is less that 16GB or thereabouts, go for the lowest 24GB server. If its between 18GB and 32GB, go for the next one up. Don't worry about your site growing in the future - upgrades are easy!!

We'll be going live with our hosting any day now but as brian said above, if you can't wait, shoot us an email.
