I'm not totally clear on the role of the conversion master. I understand it can be run on the same server as the jamroom site. Can it also be run on one of the conversion worker servers?

Is there any reason to run it on a completely separate server just to handle "master" tasks? Not sure what it does.

The Conversion Master:

- coordinates the work queue of the Conversion Workers
- provides a "system wide" interface so you can view all conversion details across all workers at once (the Conversion Job Browser)

You can easily run it on an existing server - there's no need for a dedicated server for it unless you get REALLY busy.

Hope this helps!

Ok. Just to be clear, I CAN run the conversion master on any server INCLUDING one of the conversion workers.

In an effort to offload as much as possible from the main app, it seems it would be better to run it on one of the "other" conversion workers .

Yep - that is correct.

Great. Thanks. I guess the confusion came from the conversion master. I was surprised it was a function that would merit it's own server. It didn't seem like it would take up that many resources to begin with

It's not really about resources - it's about separation of functionality, which makes the system easier to scale as well as debug, which is why with JR5 we try to be VERY modular where we can.

Thanks!
