solved Some Videos Playback in Playlists only 1 Minute?

I just noticed that some videos (even if 20 minutes long) in the individual players, only play for one minute in the playlist players.

Perhaps it's related to quotas, since not all do this.

I want all songs and videos on my site to play full length - how do I set this and where?

For example here is my Top 10 Video Play List. Some play full length, others only for 1 minute. http://indiegospel.net/indiegospel/playlist/2/top-10-videos

# 1 "Prodigal Son (live) is full length
#2 "Dead End Road" is only 1 minute and cuts off even though it's a 20 minute video.

Some others do the same, so where is the setting for this?

Are they for sale? Only a one minute sample will play if so.

Hi Paul,

I believe they are for sale, but that makes no sense. They play full length in their individual players so why not not the playlist players?

Why restrict them to one minute in one type of player and not the other? Is it because I have admin status I see it full length?

Also, if that's the case, where is setting where I can make them play full length in all players but still make the download for sale.

--------------------------

It might be useful to have an example:
http://indiegospel.net/indiegospel/playlist/2/top-10-videos

That's my Top 10 videos list - the second video "Dead End Road" is a 20 minute "Biker Ministry" from my old friend Rey Perez. In the playlist player it's restricted to 1 minute, click the individual listing below the player and open it up in the individual player.

Now it plays full length, also notice the aspect ratio changed and it's no longer shrunken and surrounded by a "sea of black" ( another thread).

There's no difference there - they should play the same length regardless if where they are viewed, since the length is not controlled by the player.

The reason it plays full length for YOU is that you are an admin.

For me it pays 1:00 for both.

There is no setting for that - make the video "free" (set the price to 0) and it can be streamed/downloaded in it's entirety.

Hi Brian,

I can do that temporarily, but it doesn't achieve the functionality I'm looking for.

I don't want the video to be free. I want it to stream for free full length, but have the download for sale.

It's similar to the issue I had with audio files until you added "disable sample creation".

I understand that perhaps Jamroom doesn't want to add an ACP option for this, but if you can just tell me where to find the controls, I'll try and change my own script.

Is it in the php or java in the jrvideo module? What is it I'm looking for, and where?

Like I mentioned above, there is no "control" for this - it is part of how streaming works in Jamroom. 99% of our users do NOT want the full video/audio file to be playable for a purchasable item as that makes it really easy to just "take" it.

We would have to update the module with a setting to disable sample creation - that's not supported at this time.

Sorry!

Hi Brian,

I get that I'm the "odd man out", but I want to make my script work that way.

The only question is, are you going to point me in the right direction, and at least tell me where the section is that I need to focus on. Or, am I going to have to figure that out "from scratch" and turn a two hour job, into a two week job.

Surely you can save me a ton of man hours with a couple quick tips? What file controls the video sample creation?

Sure - quick tips:

- modify the jrVideo/config.php and add a new Global Config option for skipping sample creation
- modify the jrVideo/index.php and in the create_save and update_save views add a check for the new config option and add it to the created Queue array
- modify the jrVideo/include.php file and customize the jrVideo_convert() function to check for the incoming setting and create/skip the sample creation.

If you're not up for that then you will need to wait on us to add that as part of a module update.

Thanks!

you shouldnt want it to work that way cause regardless of wether you want it forsale or not by alowing full playback your making it free cause anyone can use any number of video stream downloaders to get it free

although you cant disablke the "sample' i believe you can change the default sample length from 1 minute to something else

i see for audio 60 is default but u can set it up to 120
perhaps that setting affects both

but as i said the way your doing it your just going to be giving it away to anyone whos just not smart enough to type 'how do i download streamed videos free) into google

and once 1 person figures it out they are sure to tell othgers and your video sales will drop to zero as everyone will know how to get them free

i get that you want to make money off it but also want to offer it free you should choose 1 or the other
or
consider a combo approach
like a video series
chapter 1 u can watch free the rest have to be bought
albums song 1 u can listen to free the rest gotta be bought (with 60 sec samples ofcourse)

cause selling something u are giving away free isnt going to work out for you
u can do 1 or the other or like i said offer free intros then pay for further chapters or the rest of an album

Hi SE - thanks for the input. I run a Christian network. Our mission is to "win souls and feed kids".

For "soul winning" purposes, all of our audio/video files play full length. To help fund the individual artists, download sales are also offered.

Hardly anyone can sell download's in today's market. However, on the off chance that someone actually wants to support an artist by buying their downloads - it's an option.

As for stealing them with stream recorders. Most of my clients are not that tech savvy.

Those who are, if they are that messed up as to steal Christian content, they "NEED" the messages and we are happy to give them the files - lol.

As for those artists who are "all about the money" and just want to sell and provide "snippets" that do nothing for outreach, they can do that on i-tunes - we are a Christian outreach - not a business.

Hi Ken, if you are going to allow the full length playing but they are still for sale instead of for sale how about saying something like 'donate & download video', maybe sounds a little friendlier. For Sale often refers to something of physical value and so encourages those dis-honest folks to get it without paying, like a sort of challenge but donation encourages people to think of helping and so would be more willing to pay for it.

As you say though as long as it gets the good word out then the more that have it the better by which ever means the receive it :-)

Hi John,

You might have a point there. I'll have to think about that one. It's a lot to fit on a button for one thing, so it would probally have to be reduced to a global swap of "Buy" buttons to "Donate" buttons.

We also accept "tax deductible" donations through 501(c)(3) WAAOM. So a visitor might also miss the "REAL" donate button if there is a "sea" of donate buttons (forest for trees - lol).

i think thats a great opoint instead of going through all the hassle of changing it so it plays the full length get rid of the 'for sale' entirely and add a "donate to support this artists"
add into the upload media forms a 'audio_paypal or video_paypal

youd have to talk to paypal about how to createa bitton that parses in the pay to address
then add a button with something simular to {if isset($*_paypal) && $*_paypal strlnth > 0}
paypalbuttoncode
paypalemail=$*_paypal
{/if}

thats not going to work ofcourse without figuring out the exxact code and i used *_paypal as an example for both audio and video u may need to use audio_paypal video_paypal

but the basic idea is check to see if they included sa paypal address for donations and that the address is longerthen 0 charachters if so
place in the paypal button code and add in the paypal pay to address

this would be very simple to do with a call to paypal

called paypal for u theres actualy no way to have 1 donate button that pays into diferent accounts so what u will have todo is

add on the form a checkbox accept donations
then a text area box for paypal sdonate button code inthe help feild explain how to createthgat buttion code

in the templates
{if $audio_acceptdonations == on}
{$audio_donationbuttoncode}
{/if}
i think thats right

so if they check accept donations it includes the code
a better option so u dont gotta add thedonation code in every upload is add the donate button code to the profileedit
change it to profile_donationcode
that way all they do is check the boxx and it uses the codeadded to the profile

1 of the jr guys will have to debugmy ilogical logic

but u get the idea

If you are using PayPal as a charity be very careful - they are very quick to shut down accounts they feel are not "behaving" like a charity. Just a heads up (and you may already be aware of that).

Thank-you All,

Just a FYI.

Our donations come under the WAAOM 501(c)(3) umbrella - http://weallareoneministry.org The President of WAAOM is the network's CFO, so there is complete transparency and accountability.

We have a donate button that passes through their system. Everything that comes in on the button tagged "Purpose:Indie Gospel" is tracked by their accounting agency before it get's to us and where the money goes is also tracked. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=ZNCPK7X66CHEL

That is "COMPLETELY SEPARATE" from the artist content sales. They keep 100% whether they are selling through Paypal (free artists), or Foxycart (paid artists).

Any proposals would have to bear these facts in mind - thanks.

Hi SE - what the artist decides to sell or not sell on my network is left up to them.

However, I did see something on your site the other day which I have been meaning to ask you about. You have a main marketplace.

Are you using a seamless list or something like that to pull in products from your members?

Hi Derrick,

I don't know if there is another way. I have full c-panel access, but I'm not a programmer.

What Brian suggests at the script level is the only method I am currently aware of...

brian:

- modify the jrVideo/config.php and add a new Global Config option for skipping sample creation
- modify the jrVideo/index.php and in the create_save and update_save views add a check for the new config option and add it to the created Queue array
- modify the jrVideo/include.php file and customize the jrVideo_convert() function to check for the incoming setting and create/skip the sample creation.

If you're not up for that then you will need to wait on us to add that as part of a module update.

Thanks!

It's a tour for charity. I built a HTML website for it, but it's not responsive. I want to integrate that into my JR5 as a site within a site - http://theloveofferingtour.com

Also, the songs that came in for the Dennis D'Amico album, are stored in my JR4 and need to be imported to my new site. Lot's of work there, I had them all sorted into individual flash players - a real conundrum as to the best way forward now.

Just watched the guy with the boot on his head - funny!!!
