As it is now, when I'm on any member's profile page, when I click their menu tab for "Groups" it shows me only the groups that member has CREATED.
Since I am the person who creates all the groups on my site over the past several years and into the future, it results in a lot of 'blank' results, since my members do not create groups. No fun there.

I would love it if INSTEAD when one clicks on the member's profile tab for Groups, it would show all the groups that member BELONGS TO, instead. (and i assume the member would be a member of any group they created anyway, so those would show up too automatically) It helps tell a lot about a member to know what groups they have joined. :)

That would be awesome and would contribute to much more relevant and fun member activity!
I have no idea what code I can change and where, but if I knew that I could change it myself.
Thanks !

Note that only profile owners and admins will see the "groups" tab on a profile where there are no groups created yet - your "normal" users won't even see the groups option.

This is also an issue for me and I need to remind myself of the "me" focus of the profile page. The stuff that shows up here is ONLY stuff that I have created and/or contributed to.

I have put a Groups tab in the top nav which means that anyone can visit the page where all the groups are listed.

The form of that URL is: http://www.yourdomain/group

On the Profile Page, the form of the URL is http://www.yourdomain/membername/group

Strumelia - if you can modify the menu profile item (not sure you can - it's inside a loop that tests to see if a module is active but Brian has shown me how to use a foreach with a nested if to test and break out and that may work here) -- you'd want to replace the

http://www.yourdomain/membername/group
with
http://www.yourdomain/group

Another way to address the issue - and this may not work if you have hundreds or thousands of groups, my community only has about 20 and I like to "feature" top groups - would be to construct a sub-menu to the groups menu in the top nav that lists the groups you want to highlight by providing a shortcut to them. Like what happens now under ACP and your member name.

Clay, I too have, on my site's HOME/Index page:
A main top navbar link for Groups, where folks can see all the groups at once (well, on 3 pages).
And, in the home page groups Module, I got it to scroll and show all 60 of my site groups (see attached screen shot)- because that will be a really quick and colorful way for members to instantly browse and select a group. Obviously wouldn't work with 300 groups well, but with fewer than 100 groups I like how it looks and works. It's almost like featuring all my groups. I also changed the title of that module to "Join A Group!" which makes it much more tempting for new people to click on a group with the intention of maybe joining it. If your site only has 20 or 30 groups you might like that scrolling homepage module to show all your groups too.
----------------------
I hear what you are saying about changing the profile Groups tab URL to just the general site group page, but what I'd really like is for a member profile page 'Groups' tab to then show what groups that particular member belongs to. (wouldn't that also be a logical part of the "about me" focus of a profile page?). Could be I'm expecting too much though, based on the point Brian made above.

Bringing this up again for one last try-
Is it possible to have a tab/module/list/link/(or something) on my members' PROFILE PAGES that shows a list or view of all the Groups that member belongs to?

(as OPPOSED to going to a specific single group and seeing who are the members of that group)

I think the place for this would be in the profile page sidebar, where the bio, follower and other specific profile info is. Would that be ok? I'll work out how to do it if so.

Sure, anything that shows it on the member's profile page would be ok with me, though the BEST would be (for my particular site where I create almost all the groups anyway) to utilize a profile page's Groups TAB which is relatively unused on my site anyway. I'd also be happy with a whole new added module/content BLOCK on a member's page, showing a little grid of group avatars of the groups they belong to, with the group names under each pic. Probably too much to hope for though.

But, if it's easier to just show a list or grid in the left column under Stats or something, that'd be better than not having this info on the member profile pages at all. So yes, that would be ok if you are willing to create this.
I do think it's really valuable to show what groups a member belongs to. Groups are a big deal and it tells a lot about that person's interests and level of site activity. :)

Sorry, I just realized I asked this in another thread and got Brian's response there. I'm closing this.

I also want to create a way for users to see what group they belong to, via a tab (or other architecture) when they are on their profile page. I've search the forums and this is the only thread I've found that appears to address the concern.

What's the URL for the thread with Brian's solution?

Asil, the other thread is here:
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/new_posts/26650/changing-what-shows-in-the-groups-tab-on-profile-pages
It's more a response than a solution, though... ;)
