when setting up TOS module and jrNova, I click on Quota Conf and there is a pull down labelled "Display terms of Service" but there are no values there. I was thinking to enter the URL for the stock TOS but wont let me enter value either. Please advise.

You need to create your TOS Page in the Page Creator module and have the word "terms" in the title - that will be picked up by the module and displayed for you to select.

Hope this helps!

I created a new page called "terms of service". Reset caches. Back at module > quota config > still nothing in pull down menu. Nova skin.

TIA!

Figured it out. Has to be Terms of Service and then specify visible on entire site (not profile). Working now!

Awesome - that's a small module I made quickly since we needed it here on the new jamroom.net, so I'll check out the config area and get some help in there.

Thanks!

Hi Brian,
I have implemented the TOS Module.
I have set it only for the Artists Quota
I have email Validation set ( tested with instant as well )

Problem is the TOS page does show after validating via the link in the email. ( or instantly with instant )

But when the user is at the TOS page he can bypass this page by clicking on any menu item etc and go straight into the site.
Bypassing agreeing to the service with full access to editing his profile as an ARTIST.
(I have a link embedded in the TOS page for a larger Terms of use that they will need access to and also the Privacy policy, So these are the only other 2 pages they should be able to visit on sign up.)
I know that every time they log in they will receive the TOS page at login but would good to get them to agree before being able to create a profile ie. music , galleries etc

Is there anyway to not let them go any further until they agree?
OR
Maybe agree to the TOS before hitting register on the sign up page? Even a checkbox that just says " I have read and agree to the terms of service"

I have user signups enabled at my site if you wish to test
http://final.punkbp.com

Any help appreciated.

(ps I have changed it to instant activation for testing)

The latest Quota Terms of Service module has been updated to prevent "clicking out" of the terms of service acceptance page:

Hope this helps!

Thanks @brian.

The problem is still there. If the user removes the url and leaves the main domain name in the address bar ( only one tested ) they get straight into the site with their account and get modify straight away.

Can't it just be added to the sign up page so they don't have access to anything until they agree and validate?

ie a link to the terms and services for whatever quota they have selected ( I know that may be harder )
and a tick box down near the submit button saying " I Agree To The TOS" like most other sites?
This is done on the page when signing up.

Just rules out any legal issues that may arise ;)

Not everyone want's a forced TOS agreement on the signup page, so it's not something that will be added to the sign up process (most sites simply have a link somewhere to it).

If someone actively tries to bypass your TOS, then it will not be recorded in their user account that they accepted, so if something were to "come up" in regards to their use of the site, you could point out that they actively had to try to work around accepting the TOS.

Yeah I get that.
For my peace of mind is there a way I can add a checkbox and link on my sign up page then?

You would need to create a custom signup page - just make sure the signup form action is correct.

Also - having a user "check a box" is not going to hold up in court - what's much, much more important is the content of your TOS. A user can always say they "didn't know what they were agreeing to", so while it may seem like on the surface you are protecting yourself by requiring they check a box, in reality the reason this is forced on a user is to try to improve the chance they actually read the TOS. The checkbox does not mean they read it, and if your TOS is full of dense legal jargon then it can even be thrown in court as being too complicated to understand.

So I guess what I am getting at is that the TOS is important, but it's more important what it actually says (i.e. "your continued use of this site means you agree to ....") than it is that a user checks a box.

With that said, I am not a lawyer, so contact a lawyer if you're losing sleep over your TOS.

Hope this helps!

I've got a Feature Request open on this:

https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/tracker/227/add-option-to-require-tos-acceptance-on-signup

You can vote for it as well.

Hope this helps!
