Session Length Too Short

It doesn't seem to matter if I set session length or cookies (see attached) log ins don't last long enough.

It's particularly irritating if you are uploading a large video file but your session expires and you have to start over.

Why don't the settings seem to have any effect?

video upload should not be effected by session expires. the default is 6 hours and the setting in the screenshot is just over 8 days.

How long are the videos taking to upload?

is there anything in your error logs?

Hi Michael,

It's not that the video uploads are too long, it's that the sessions are too short. I don't get the 8 days or even the default 6 hours. The settings are meaningless, I have to log in many times during the course of a day and my browser is not set to clear cookies.

I suspected it might be because I'm signing in by OneAll but they say the session length is controlled by the system, not them.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the logs about this.

Something is not setup right on your server. We use the default here on Jamroom.net - how may times a day do you have to login here?

Based on your other posts I'm leaning towards your PHP config on your server being setup differently, or something else is interfering with stuff.

It doesn't matter if you login regularly or with OneAll - after login everything is the same.

Hi Brian,

I have to login at Jamroom often as well.

I actually have thought you guys have a bug or something, because I login, navigate to a different part of your site, and then have to login all over again even though I just did it seconds ago.

Quite irritating actually - I don't have that trouble on my site. With mine the login stays while navigating, it just doesn't last as long as it should - perhaps an hour or two at the most.

I don't notice these problems on other sites which is why I don't think it's browser related, and Jamroom isn't being run on our server, so why is the problem even worse on your jamroom.net site?

Kind of confusing symptoms - I don't really know what to make of it.

yeah something is not right. I spend a significant amount of hours every day here on Jamroom.net (obviously) and have never seen this.

I have no idea - I've never seen this, and you're the first to tell us this is happening, so I have no idea why this is impacting you.

Is it the same on all browsers?

Thanks!

I'll do some experimenting with different browsers and get back to you. I generally use Chrome as default, even though it can be "finicky" at times lol

fwiw, I am not having that problem at all. I've been coming to this JR site on and off for weeks and have never had to log in since the first time. (mostly windows with firefox, some mac with safari)

The time when I notice what your describing Ken is when I use the address bar, or a bookmarked link that uses http://.

Because all logged in activity takes place on https:// on jamroom.net.

But if im using the clickable navigation then it always keeps me on https so don't see the issue and haven't had to use my login details in a long time.
