This may seem like an odd question but I like the way the Artists list for them are coming out and may just make the artists list my members list. Are the Artists list for members who have uploaded music only and so will only list those ?

I think the difference depends largely on quota settings (ie what modules are active in member quotas which are active in artists).

Generally, artists require more space and native multi-media support.

Yep - it's 100% up to you. Jamroom 4 had separate "member" and "artist" quotas so there used to be an actual distinction - now it's just up to however you want to set your quotas up - everyone can be an "artist" or everyone could be a "member", "photographer", etc.
