How does/is the addition of modules and 3rd party add ons affecting everyone's speeds? Are any issues developing with this, especially any larger sites?

Gary wrote up a nice blog about the pros/cons of Jamroom here:

https://www.jamroom.net/garymoncrieff/blog

where he mentions that Jamroom is still fast even with a lot of modules installed. As the primary core developer, I can say A LOT of work has gone in to make sure Jamroom stays fast even with a lot of modules installed. On my main dev system here I have over 160 modules installed and if I turn on caching it's just as fast as Jamroom.net is here (which has 76 modules installed).

Hope this helps!

Thanks Gary...and I know I may be coming in with guns blazing on questions and critiques, but making sure of what we have here before spend months on site development, only to be disappointed (yeah, NING has made me an ass)

If you've never read "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" (I know it's kind of a new-agey self help book) I'd recommend it. One of the main tenets is that you can't control other people - you can only control your response to them. When you fully integrate that you realize you have 100% control over every thing you do - it's very empowering :)
