Hi. I run a site www.tradconnect.com that is focused on blogs in the main, whereby I write and review music, do reviews, and generally showcase new music via Soundcloud embeds etc.

1. Could you point me to any other Jamroom site that is likewise focused on the creator showcasing new music.

2. I notice artists can sell their own music which is great. I assume that is all automated and the site creator (me) doesent have any admin to do with this. However is there a way for the site creators to take a small percentage.

3. I am used to the ease of Ning where once the site layout is set, there is very little in the way of admin afterwards. I can concentrate on writing. Once the layout is set is Jamroom as easy with admin.

4. Would you advise that a non IT person like me create the site myself as that way I learn how it works, or should I collaborate with a developer. Do you know or could you recommend any collaborator in the UK/Ireland that may know Jamroom.

Cheers

Welcome to Jamroom!

1) Since most of our users don't "report back" to us how they're using Jamroom, I'm not sure if I've seen a 100% blog focused Jamroom - although we do have a free skin (Lucid) which is part of the free core that is designed specifically for that - it's very clean and easy to customize.

2) Yes - you can take a cut, but it requires using the FoxyCart module as that let's all the cart purchases go through your account, you can then take your fee (%) and then "payout" the remainder to your profile users.

3) Yes - Jamroom is the same in this regard - basically your "work" is going to come in setting the site up and configuring it all how you want it to be - once you've done that, the site can pretty much run itself, although I'd recommend checking in on things from time to time.

4) I don't think you need to collaborate with a developer unless you don't know how to modify HTML or CSS - you might want to tweak some things about your site, and if you don't know how to do that at all it might make sense to get someone to help you out. If you know basic HTML/CSS then you can go a long way with Jamroom's templates.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for that

1. Do you have a link to a site that uses Lucid

2. With regard to the uploads of music a lot of my members with be professional bands with professional recording. Others will be beginners with audios made in their bedroom. Is there a way to highlight the professional acts. I wouldnt want the site to become a overrun with home recording the way soundcloud is for example.

Its one of my old test sites. Not much on it expect a couple of test blogs but it'll give you an idea.

You could specify two quotas, professional and amateur, then if artists were placed in the appropriate one, the professional quota could be specified as a search parameter when generating lists.

Alternatively, you could create a member option for them to select if they are pro or am, then do a similar search based on the option.

Hey Paul -

You'll want to update your site:

http://paul.jamroomnetwork.com/jamroom5-2b/

to jrNewLucid - that is the "old" Lucid that was only during development.

he missed a question
u set up 'quotas" these are rules that apply to each module and each user group u can have only pro musicianss having access to certain fwatures havijg higher upload limits only having shops u can have "premium access' to pro musicians

its extremely customizable ..if u learn the system

like i said on creators
anything that u dont need to know code for is going to scerew u up more then help you
learning basic css and htmp is so easy

html defines how stuffs placed on a page and formatted with simple to understand markup code
like this is a parapraph that ended thed paragraph
now every element like a p or div or a (link) can have a class and or id even multiple classes
this alows you to target say all with css like .members-details {color:white; padding:4px;} that affects how its displayed in finer detail making the text white and adding a lil space around the text
using firebug you can inspectthe html and the css afecting each element by class id or by all elements like every p thats not changed by a class
this makes editing the site designsuper easy

you can learn it by simply trying the1st few days might be confusing hbut its so simple to find help and guides online
in no time u will code without even thinking about what your doing

paul on the point number 2 above about the foxycart
when you say it pays to you then you take your % and payout to the profile account.. i want to be sure im clear (more for her sake then mine as im pretty sure i know how it works)

but say someone makes a purchase for 10 dollars and u have a 1% "tax" on using the service
the 10 is paid into your paypal then 9 auto transfered to the members paypal imediately
or do you have to manualy do anytjing and is there any delay in processing from order time till the shop owner gets thier payments
