1) When I set a space limit for a quota is it a "hard" or "soft" limit?

2) What indication does the user and admin get to know a limit has been breached?

3) If content already exists in a user account, and their quota is changed to a quota that doesn't allow the space they are using, will the quota change fail, will it succeed but give a warning, will it succeed but delete some content?

It is a hard limit.

When the user goes to create a new item, they will see a message letting them know they are over the space limit.

None of the above - it will change them to the new quota, but they will not be able to create any new items (that use space, i.e. audio, files, video, etc) until they fall under the quota limit. At no time does JR delete anything.

Hope this helps!

Yes, that's helpful. Just going through my Ning migrants now and separating them into members, artists, etc.

How would it work is someone is in the member quota (no audio/video support) but they have songs or videos?

I'm wondering how much manual sorting of accounts I will have to do, or how much will take care of itself based on quota settings and warning messages. Is there a help file somewhere that get's into the details of how this works?

I have over a thousand Ning members imported. I have several quotas, 1 for members (default) that have no audio/video files, I have a free artist quota with 100MB of space (many will be over this limit), then I have 2 subscription artist levels with more space and features enabled. Plus a couple speciality quotas.

Functionally, how am I to filter everyone into the right categories with the least amount of confusion and headache to my clients? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Unless you allow audio/video in their quota, their audio and video items will not show on their profile.

Not really - the majority of quota settings are "on off" type settings - so if you don't allow something in a quota, it's not going to show.

You might want to work with Paul on this to find out if there is some kind of mapping that Ning export provides that can be linked up to JR quotas - if there's not, there's not much JR can do to "figure it out" for you.

Hope this helps!
