Hi there,

I have been writing a few e-mails with Arvixe.com about my site because I discovered that it is loading pretty slow. It´s especially the frontpage, but the other pages loads to slow as well. Arvixe says that it´s the images and scripts that are dominating the delay.

On this site you can see where the delays are: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/dWvAjK/http://www.find-et-band.dk

I know that I have some scripts from other sites like Twitter and Facebook and I really like to keep these scripts.

So I´m wondering if anything could be done to the images on my site so that they don´t load so slowly. I guess it´s because the images are big even though they are showing up as small thumbnails on my fronpage..?

Let me know what I can do to make my site faster.

Thanks :)

Torben

I just realized that the images on my frontpage are croped, so I don´t understand why they are loading so slowly?

I´m looking forward to hear from someone :)

Actually, it seem pretty normal to me. All the images are there quickly.
Have you changed anything or is there specific pages that are slow?
Also, make sure you are not in Developer mode and that caches are enabled.

I haven´t done anything to my site yet, but it also seem to load a bit faster here now. The biggest issue is when I clear my cache - and then enter my site. Then it´s to slow. And that´s the way most visitors will see it, if they haven´t been to my site before... Right?

But if you, Paul, haven´t been to my site before, and it look ok for you, then I guess it´s just in my end it´s slow..?

The test: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/dWvAjK/http://www.find-et-band.dk - shows that it´s very slow...

Maybe I´m just overreacting on this issue, but I believe it´s important that it loads quickly.

Let me know if there could be anything to do..?

Thanks :)

Have just tried it again and it may not be the fastest website I've visited, but its certainly acceptable to me at least.
It will be slower the first visit after clearing caches, but then the cached pages are served to all visitors.
Where in the world is your server? That can make a difference.

Not really ;)

When you "Clear Caches", think of that as a full reset of everything - i.e. everything is going to be rebuilt from the ground up. Your next page load after the cache reset will be much, much slower than normal as it has to rebuild the base level cached items that are shared system wide.

When a new user visits your site it should be pretty fast, as none of the "shared" cached items will need to be rebuilt.

So don't test your site speed by resetting caches, as that is the most extreme "rebuild" that will ever happen.

It's important to know too that being on shared hosting you are going to have times when your site is a bit slow, and times when it is fast, since all the resources are shared among many, many sites. If you want to be sure your site is always fast, then you're going to want to upgrade to a VPS or dedicated server - that's the only way to guarantee your server resources.

Hope this helps!

I've never understood how people can even try to run any script like this on shared hosting, it is a false saving. I use a cloud server at VPS.net, more expensive than some but the instant scalability is a big thing.

For a lot of sites, shared hosting works well because they don't get a lot of traffic, and it's cheap - and you don't have to be a system administrator. a VPS is great if you know how to admin it, as you're going to get "consistent" resources instead of having things be fast/slow.

Thanks for replying to my post :)

My server, gazelle, is located in Amsterdam, Europe, so that´s pretty "close" to me.

And thanks Brian for updating me about clearing the cache. It´s good to hear :)

I´ll wait and see if it´s nessesary to take a look at VPS.

Thanks again!
