Hi there,

After spending a lot of hours on creating my site on http://find-et-band.dk/ - I would now like to know how to backup my site? I mean everything including user accounts and so on.

I have been trying to find a solution here on the forum, but I did not find the answer so now I´m asking. I found something about Amazon, but I don´t know how to do it..?

Is there a simple way to make a secure backup, and if there is - how do I do it?

Let me know :)

Thanks!

Torben

Hi
Use the jrBackup module. It saves everything to an Amazon S3 cloud account. You'll need to create an Amazon account but their charges for storage are negligible IMO. Just a few tens of cents a month for several gigabytes.

I´ve now made an Amazon Account and it seems like I get 5 GB of storage for free. Is that enough or do I need to buy more storage?

I have also installed the jrBackup. So now I just need to find the information to put in the fields in my ACP, but where are these AWS access key, AWS secret key and S3 bucket name informations on Amazon?

Please let me know if I have to buy storage to be able get those informations..? It is pretty cheap yes, so it´s not a problem :)

Thanks!

I think Amazon just charge for what you use. If you go over the free allocation they'll charge you, at least that's what seems to happen with me. I get a bill for between $1 and $2 from them every month. Its so insignificant I've never bothered to check exactly what I'm paying for lol
As to how much you need, that really depends on the size of the site you're backing up.

Click on your account link, top right, and there's an option to go to your security credentials there.

I can´t seem to find that option where I can go to my security credentials. Could it possibly be so that I can´t see this option until I set up my payment method - or?

Right now it´s not there as far as I can see.

Thanks :)

Its possible, I guess. To be honest, its so long ago that I set this up that I can't remember the process!!
You're going to have to set up a payment method at some point so I'd do it and see.

I´ve now made a payment method, but I still can´t find these informations. I guess I must be blind or something, but now I´ve mailed Amazon.com to hear if they can tell me how to do it.

I hope they can tell me :)

Otherwise I´ll come back here :)

Ok, I didn´t understand that it was AWS (Amazon Web Services) that I needed to create an account at, but it´s now done and I´ve put in the informations from AWS in my ACP, so it should be just fine now :)

Thanks :)

I just want to add that your first level of backup support should be done at the server level (i.e. your hosting provider making daily incremental and weekly full backups) - the Jamroom S3 backup is a great second level backup, but your first one should be handled by your hosting provider.

If your hosting provider does NOT offer backups, then I would recommend alternate hosting.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for info, Brian.

I´m using Arvixe as my hosting provider. I hope they offer backups. I believe they do as you are recommending them :)

Do you know what to do or should I contact Arvixe regarding this? :)

Thanks!
