"An error was encountered trying to communicate with the Active Marketplace
make sure the Marketplace URL is set correctly in Tools -> Marketplace Systems."

I have read the posts on here and have not had a problem with this since updating to jr5 when it came out. I Have tried http:// and https:// and I still have the error.

I am not sure if this is on my end or JR but I wanted to let you guys know.

hmmm... working here for me.

Wonder what the error was... Any other info? error logs, console errors?

I'm getting the error on ALL of my jamrooms on 3 different hosts. Different versions.

The only error I see in common across several sites is this one: PHP Strict Standards: Only variables should be passed by reference in ../modules/jrMarket-release-1.2.1/index.php on line 465

I see it dating back several months though, while this marketplace notice error just began happening sometime in the past 24 hours.

I'm getting the same. Started a thread . Didn't realise this was here.
Deleted now.
Mine said

Quote: I have this error
Invalid Marketplace ID - please check Tools -> Marketplace Systems and ensure you are using the correct Marketplace ID (2)
Every time I go to Marketplace

I have checked my firewall ( Dedi ) and turned it off and rebooted my server - No difference
I have reloaded modules - same error
Seems to have come out of the blue as I am the only one that does any updates etc or server mgmt so bit confused on this one.

Anyone have any ideas how to resolve?
I noticed lately that I have been getting emails from JR saying User Accounts etc were available for update
Nothing is as marketplace aint working

So any help would be good.

I have so far cleared cache manually , Ran full integrity, Reloaded modules, Checked firewall and permissions.
What have I missed?
Custom site with Nova skin.

Cheers
MAD©

EDIT
Cleared my cache again manually
Now it says

An error was encountered trying to communicate with the Active Marketplace
make sure the Marketplace URL is set correctly in Tools -> Marketplace Systems.

Right on - glad to hear that. This was my fault, sorry for messing it up. I've been working on some DS optimizations for privacy checking, and updating our local script here on Jamroom.net as I thought it was all working - the marketplace does some extra joins in the search however, and there was a stray parenthesis causing the query to break... doh!

I'll get a test like that added into my unit tests so that wont happen again.

Thanks!

No - if you see updates then there are updates. The problem was a SQL error when trying to load the marketplace.

Ok cool. Just that we were hammered this week with updates via our marketplace email and none are available tonight so wanted to make sure as no-one at our site has updated.

So you're getting an email indicating there are updates, but when you view the system updates you're not seeing any?

Yeah exactly.
I have seen User Accounts and another one ( now deleted from my inbox ) saying new updates available
We haven't updated anything since but it said they were available.
Nothing in system updates

I just tested here on one of my dev systems that is a bit out of date and I'm not seeing any issues - updates are showing properly.

If you get the email again tonight, check what modules it is telling you there are updates for, and if you see there is no update for it let me know.

Hope this helps!

Hey guys!!!

It's been waaaaaaayyyyyy too long! Missed you guys! I'm working on a JR site for my school's music program.

I'm seeing this error, too. I'm on 5.2.10 and marketplace 1.2.9. Tried resetting the caches, but still no go :/ This is the error from my activity log:

Quote: jrCore_load_url: http://www.jamroom.net/networkmarket/browse?type=module&c[] =stable&c[] =beta returned code 0 - error #6 (name lookup timed out)

I tried turning off the beta channel, but got a similar error for the stable channel. If I go direct to that URL, I get the results, and if I curl that URL from my server, I get the results, so something's weird...

Hope to be around more!

Hey Kyle!

jrCore_load_url is just a wrapper around the PHP cURL functions - double check in your PHP config that you've got curl support and that it has been compiled with SSL.

Note that you can change to:

http://www.jamroom.net

(non https) and it will work as well.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Brian! It should have cURL - it was working a few weeks ago and I could see and download marketplace items no problem. I tried changing the marketplace URL to https (it was just http) and it's still not loading :/ I also tried reloading both the core and marketplace modules, but no go.

I don't see any issues here - are you still getting a "name lookup timed out" error in your error log? That indicates a DNS issue - check that your /etc/resolv.conf has good nameserver entries in it...

Hope this helps!

alright, so I hardcoded a value of 30 for the timeout, and now it works (I think it was set 20?)...That seems abnormally long though, especially when curling it from my machine is almost instantaneous. If I ssh in to the server and curl it, it takes ~20 seconds. I have noticed that it takes a while to ssh into my machine, and SFTP takes a long time to reconnect each time I need to upload files, so maybe it's something with my server? I'm on digitalocean - any ideas?

Hmmm - yeah that's weird. I just tested from my Linode and the marketplace responds immediately, so maybe try different nameservers or swapping their order? Maybe your primary name server is overloaded or is slow to respond for some reason.

Try this - add this line:

192.241.237.228 www.jamroom.net

to your /etc/hosts file - if that fixes it then it is a DNS server issue.

Hope this helps!

Alright - think I figured it out! My resolv.conf was:

nameserver 4.2.2.2
nameserver 8.8.8.8

I changed it to:

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.4.4.4
nameserver 4.2.2.2

and now everything seems to load much faster! So something must be up with 4.2.2.2, because I saw someone else had the same issue with their droplet.

Thanks man! :)
