What Cloud Server Solutions Are Best For Jamroom at the moment? Not too sure these shared hosting sites can handle much any more.

Thanks

I'd recommend Digital Ocean:

https://www.jamroom.net/brian/documentation/guides

we run Jamroom.net here on DO and have no issues.

Hope this helps!

Great, is it possible for us to have the Jamroom support team migrate it for us?

Thanks

Are you already on Jamroom 5 or are you on JR4 looking to upgrade at the same time?

Thanks!

How large is your system? It's not something we normally, but could probably work something out.

Thanks!

OK that's a big site - DO is going to be expensive.

I'd recommend a dedicated server from someone like OVH:

http://www.soyoustart.com/us/offers.xml

If you can manage it on your own. If you need a managed server (i.e. someone else does the sysadmin work for you) let me know and I can recommend something.

Hope this helps!

I need it managed, don't have experience with server management. And I meant the diskspace storage was at 230gb. That's still big?

Managed will always be more expensive than non-managed. Its only still big if your using all of that space. Figure out how much your using, then use that to determine how much space you need.

If your getting a dedicated server, then you can set it up however you want. Grab whichever your comfortable with.

I would suggest what Brian said - http://www.soyoustart.com/us/offers.xml. If you go to http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ you should be able to find companies that will manage the server. I found one yesterday for $30 a month that would update the scripts etc. but now I can`t find it. Based on the huge price differences between managed and non-managed, it vastly cheaper to outsource the server management.

When you order one of the soyoustart.com packages, do they set you up with options of your choice (like cPanel)?

No - at that price they just install whatever OS you pick and then turn it over to you - it's 100% up to you to manage and run the server. If the server gets into a situation where it cannot boot or work due to software issues, they will not fix it - the only thing they will help with is if the hardware fails. So make sure you are 100% comfortable managing everything from the hardware up.

Hope this helps!

The first jamroom site I started was back when jr2 first came out, I think around 10 years ago and it's still going on jr4 without much trouble. It's a very niche site, experimental music with a small core of supporters. The traffic isn't huge, but the archive after 10+ years is around 80gb. I'm paying around $120/mo right now, but the person handling the backend stuff is moving on so I need another solution. I may just start over with jr5 and do without audio (just soundcloud and youtube), but I saw this thread and it would be cool if I could keep the audio running.

Anyway, I looked at the board Dazed posted about and wasn't really thrilled with much there without a recommendation. Probably couldn't justify more than $30 a month on top of the sayoustart.com package. Is there some jamroom peep around that knows how to keep a dedicated server safe from crap that would check in from time to time for $30/month on top of moving our site and setting up cpanel. Probably need occasional stuff like ssl certificates. I don't know. Just wondering.
