Media Url Scanner

  • Overview

The Media URL Scanner provides a Core Text Formatter that "scans" user text and replaces URLs to supported media sites with an inline, embedded player.
For example if the YouTube text formatter is active and someone pastes a YouTube url in a post, the link to the video will be replaced with the video itself. Either when the user clicks on the link, or instead of the link depending on the settings set by the admin.
  • Global Config

The Global Config tab of the module in the ACP allows the admin user to choose how the Media URL Scanner will format the posts made by the user.
The main choice is to choose whether to immediately replace the link to the media with the media, or wait until the link is clicked.

  • Expanded Media

If the Expanded Media checkbox is checked, the url will be immediately replaced by the media it is linking to.

So if the user posts a url of a YouTube video with Expanded Media checked, the video player will be visible in the post when the page loads.

  • Since the Expanded Media was checked, when a comment was made with a link to a youtube video, that video became the visible in the contents of the comment.

If 'Expanded Media' was not checked, the Media URL Scanner would instead put the title of the media as a link and wait for the user to click it before revealing the youtube player.

  • Play Button Size

There is also an option in the Global Config tab in the ACP that reads "Play Button Size" which has a default setting of 'Disabled'.

This is for use in conjunction with when the Expanded Media is NOT enabled.

So the link is put there in the post, but to distinguish it from other links which would normally take the user to a different URL, in this case a play button is shown before the link.

Clicking on either the link or the play button will reveal the player.
