Question for Jamroom Site Owners
Discussions
For me long term with this project it will be hosting costs. I use fb a lot and can lure in 1000's of artists since my genre is dub music which means they make it on their own computers. Versionist first go round i had 10,000 members, and reggaedubwise i had 5,000 members.
As you must realize most of us do this as a hobby. Very few people make money at this when your in the music business. The artists do not have any money to buy, donate or do anything but suck bandwidth and disk space.
The most i ever paid was about $200 a month for hosting and maybe made 100$ of that in adsense, text links etc. So the buiness model for me became build it, build it up, sell it. Did that 3 times and all 3 times the dub site i built failed. Let's face it jr is not for the novice site owner.
So the hardest part is to keep disk space costs in line with something we can afford to scale with.
