Creating a New Person

Genosis

I decided not to Gedcom a family and upload them individually to get a feel for this wonderful program! I clicked "new person" while in one tree, and it immediately took me to different tree! What did I do? :-) ~ Lisa

Help! Changing Web Host Just To Run Genosis!

Jamroom Hosting

It's a new day, and it still won't work though I deleted everything and started fresh again. During the upload process using Filezilla I get a message asking me what I want to do as there are duplicate files? I have chosen just about every option and I still cannot run the program. When I chose overwrite the target file because the source file is larger, that is when that one file continually keeps uploading itself. It gets to 100%... waits... starts over. I am at a loss at this point. :-( ~ Lisa

Help! Changing Web Host Just To Run Genosis!

Jamroom Hosting

I think I've had enough for today as I'm practically in tears. This is what I get:

404 Not Found
The server can not find the requested page: sheep.arvixe.com/~tooshy/genosis/(port 80)
Please forward this error screen to sheep.arvixe.com's WebMaster.

http://sheep.arvixe.com/~tooshy/genosis/

For whatever reason I cannot get the file .htaccess to upload into the root directory of the genosis folder. It shows that it is uploading, but I cannot see it in cpanel. ~ Lisa

Help! Changing Web Host Just To Run Genosis!

Jamroom Hosting

WHOO ~ it's the weekend! I have purchased with my new host, Arvixe, and I'm trying to figure it out on my own and move stuff. I'm stumbling, but I think I am making progress. Still having an issue with Genosis uploading. It keeps uploading the same file: modules\jrcore\tools\diff

I'm using Filezilla... once it reaches 100% it isn't supposed to start over, right? It has started uploading the same file over 5 times now... I do not know what I'm doing wrong. Anything? ~ Lisa

Thanks, Michael! Very interesting. So, this is how I understand it: I can sign up with Arvixe with my domain, and it will remain at my current web host until I decide to transfer it. Thank you! I have worked all day, and just got home a while ago. I have been in contact with Arvixe already and when I transfer my domain it will take 5-10 days (gasp!) I'm hoping I can jump on this tomorrow. (I've been really bad at time management lately... ) I am appreciative, Lisa

Yes, I use Legacy Family Tree software, and my tree isn't really large... less than 2000 people. I'm not doing any name studies nor am I a name collector... pretty detailed for the most part. :-) Yes, everything you gentlemen are saying is very helpful... thank you so much!

Help! Changing Web Host Just To Run Genosis!

Jamroom Hosting

Good Morning! The only "stuff" I have is 2 WordPress blogs and my domain. I cannot afford to have two servers for the long term, and as they were unwilling to be to do anything to keep a long term customer. Needless to say, I am no longer interested in staying with them. Which is why I am here - I really do not know what needs to be done first.
I purchase from Arvixe... then what?
I want my domain to go with me, is there a process asking them to transfer it? Is it typically a long process? My email is part of my domain, so that is a concern.
I have considered only briefly what I might have to do to move WordPress, but I am not too worried about that yet. I just don't know what to do first to get up and running and receiving email. :-) Thanks for your patience, gentlemen.

Help! Changing Web Host Just To Run Genosis!

Jamroom Hosting

Hello! I stumbled upon Genosis by accident and decided I NEEDED it! I tried installing several times and there was issue after issue. Finally I emailed my web host and discovered the package I have will not run it, and their upgrade was really expensive. After many emails back and forth it was discovered they just aren't willing to keep me as a customer though I have been with them since 2005. Which leads me to my question....

What do I do now? I have always been with the same host and I do not know a thing about moving "my stuff" to a different host. My domain was purchased at the time I signed up. What do I need to do? Thanks for all your help! Lisa

Grrrr... Error 404

Installation and Configuration

You guys have been an amazing help! The reason why the program won't upload is because my server host has those requirements on a package I do not have. I have inquired how much it will be to upgrade and am waiting a response.

The hosting you recommend... what is the minimum package I should be looking at in order to run this program? If I am seriously considering changing server hosts then you know I am really excited about this program! :-) ~ Lisa
