I know plenty of people who swear by Debian. Centmin Mod runs on CentOS and so that's what I use. I have a few servers running Ubuntu. But their whole upgrade ever X months is a little annoying.

Never had any issues with centos, it's my Linux of choice. Centos 7 is wonderful. Maybe you were on Centos 6?

Thanks. My existing dev server took a clunk when I remove openssl from centos! FYI - don't ever do that. :) Centos loves Openssl v1.0.1e and it doesn't want to be updated ever.

Haven't tested this out yet. I'm moving to dedicated home testing servers vs. virtual machines. You'd be amazed what you can get on Craigslist. ;-) I'll have to get the JR hosting fired up.

Couple things I'd like to see in the Marketplace Module:

1. One thing that was killing me while setting up my dev sites was that I had to add each module, one at a time. I know you have the bundles, but would it be possible to get an input next to each module I wanted to add, then I could install multiple modules at the same time? Or maybe each I checked would be added to a list which I could install in one pop. It seriously too me a long time to add each module per dev site.

2. If there was an option to decide how many modules per page in the settings. If there are 1000 modules, I'll be going through pages for days.

3. An option to remove / hide modules from the list I'd never be interested in to reduce the total amount of modules. I guess there would also need to be an option to un-hide or reset that preference in-case I wanted to see them again.

michael:
Thats the type of setup I like, much display area.

I got the monitors from Korea. They're wonderful and very cheap. Around $300 US for 27" 2560x1440 resolution.

These are the ones I own. The video is a couple years old. The monitors are better now.

Stats Information

From the chatbox.

jimmyk, 7:28 PM
Some people I know who run forums hate chatboxes. It seriously hampers postings.

michael, 7:29 PM
true, bit if it cuts down the noise so the forum posts can get to just the question without all the "im feeling frustrated" noise that might help those reading the question who come later

jimmyk, 7:30 PM
Agreed. But statistics are what the new user looks at to see if the forum is worth joining. A busy chatbox doesn't reflect via site stats.

michael, 7:30 PM
good point

jimmyk, 7:31 PM
Maybe is chatbox needs stats which could enhance site stats?

eithergary.moncrieff, 7:31 PM
yes but on the other hand a lot of posts made in forums or somethings not relevant

gary.moncrieff, 7:32 PM
I don't see why this chat couldn't output to stats

michael, 7:32 PM
I hate "PLEASE HELP ASAP" as a forum topic. Nobodys every going to read that if it turns up in search results.

michael, 7:33 PM
Think the data for chat is recorded. stats could be extracted I'd guess. what stats.

jimmyk, 7:34 PM
I agree that the content can be bad. BUT it's the stats which are enhanced which is one thing people look at when joining a site. Stats are everything for some new users.

michael, 7:34 PM
which stats

jimmyk, 7:35 PM
I think anything which would enhance overall stats for the site which would show people that the site is active and busy.

jimmyk, 7:35 PM
If I see 1 million posts on a forum, I assume that that forum is busy and a quality site. A lot of people don't look at the actual post content to judge a site.

michael, 7:35 PM
ah right. "posts today" "questions solved today" etc

jimmyk, 7:36 PM
Anything which would enhance the site's overall perception that it's busy, active, and a site worth joining.

michael, 7:37 PM
I think the freelances sites do that well. with the counter that counts projects added "1,245,954 projects created"

michael, 7:37 PM
and it keeps ticking as you watch the screen

jimmyk, 7:38 PM
Yea, that kind of stats would motivate anyone to join. Just getting someone to signup is valuable. Signing up give an email address to market too. So, enhancing any stats would be good even if the user isn't active on the site. Data is key.

michael, 7:39 PM
make a thread on it so we can keep track of which stats are important and discuss how to display them most effectively

I might be wrong. Now it's working fine on the lower res for me - when I scale down my browser window.

If I scale down the browser window, without the dropdown open, I don't have the double scroll bars.

If I have the dropdown open and scale down the browser window, the double dropdowns appear as I make the window smaller.

If I make the window smaller and open the dropdown, it's fine. When I start to scale the window, it shows up.
