JR Unified Login

Suggestions

I'm working on several sites which are based on JR. It would be great to have a module which allowed someone who registered on one site to login to all the sites. Maybe a cloud module that stored basic user data that would then be pulled down to each individual site where the person was signing up.

This could be useful for marketing purposes. The JR unified cloud module would keep basic information about the user and contact preferences for each site the user signed up on. I could take this information from the cloud module and have better control over contacting the member via a newsletter or mass marketing.

Just an idea.

Maybe a crowdfund module for JR development could be a good thing on this site. Put out a list of some of the items you guys want to create and have a sponsorship button with set amounts to donate and a goal of how much gets the mod done.

Some people might not know what they want until they see the idea and then go "wow, I need that for my site, I'm going to sponsor the development of that mod". Then, once the mod is done, allow the sponsors to get the module a month or two before the rest of the community and maybe a banner or something on their profile that says they donated toward the module creation.

Former Ning CEO Speaks...

Ning To Jamroom

michael:
my offer of $10 was rejected for being too low. It appears the lowest they would consider is $500.

That's hilarious! What fun you could've had with that domain name. ;-)

Former Ning CEO Speaks...

Ning To Jamroom

I've never used Ning. The only thing I have to say about Ning is this:

If Marc Andreessen, whom I follow on Twitter, never even mentions Ning on his Twitter feed my conclusion is that ship has sailed. He talks about anything and everything on Twitter and in the years that I've been following him I haven't ever heard a word about Ning.

His words can sway an entire company or industry, for him to not mention a product that he's sits as Chairman, is quite unusual. My guess is that he probably collects a paycheck but really wants nothing to do with the product - which speaks volumes to me.

I think people just gravitate to the main JR forum and don't think to go to the developers profile to see the developer's specific forum. I also see some people just posting in the product comments section.

Newest posts could work, but if it's for every new post then it might be cluttered with general posts from the JR forum - not saying that a general Newest Posts wouldn't be nice also. Maybe having a "new thread in developers forum by developers" would be a better solution for a listing, that way it'll just show new threads created by developers in their forums.

jimmyk:@brian I never realized that you guys entertained sponsoring module creation. That's actually really popular on the IPB forum and there have been several modules created that way. Maybe putting it out there that you guys are open to people paying to sponsor module development, more people might be willing to help get something they want.
That has always been an option but yes, maybe we haven't promoted it as such because we are all pretty busy anyway, and any sponsored module ideas are considered based on their usefulness to all, and not just something unique a user wants. Having said that, at least 2/3 modules in the Marketplace now have resulted for sponsored development.

2/3 that's an interesting number. I just thought you guys made those because they were useful mods. Good to know that you guys entertain module sponsorships. :-)

Yep agreed- forum forum forum. I think it's a great idea to have a Developer's section of the forum, not only for developer's 'announcements', but also for users to ask for paid developer help, and for discussion of various developer products. But should be clearly separate, for discussing developer subjects only.

I can't speak for the JR developers but I'm not sure if they'd want the main JR forum to turn into a forum about developer's projects... that's why the developers have their own forums. I saw the announcement forum more as a promotional thing so that people can get informed about new mods / skins / ect. and go to the developers forum to discuss the mod / skin / ect more in-depth.

If you want paid developer there use to be a place where you could request a job... not sure where that's at since the new site came online.

Maybe having a "Developer Announcements" forum in the main JR forum would help promote developer's who are launching new modules / skins like @n8flex and others. Being that users probably are going to spend most of their time on this site on the forum (I'm assuming this since I don't have statistics on where users go on this site though it appears that's where a lot of users end up) that could give a boost to developers selling their products. More products sold = bigger ecosystem IMO.
