Are php's system functions required or reccomended?

Sorry... I made an error in my previous post. The installer stops me (I CAN'T go on). So it seems it i required.

Hi,
I see here: https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/getting-started/774/requirements
That system function are under recommended . But when I try to install i get an error about system non enabled and I can get to the next step.
So are those recommended or not?
