Issue installing....can not see .htaccess,have followed advice.

Hi All I posted my problem in a thread that had already been solved. Duh!

I have uploaded the Jamroom 4 core open source files to my my domain server via Fetch
I get "index of" when i look at the url,there is no .htaccess file showing.

I followed directions at a fetch forum and followed advice there on how to show .htaccess files.

Does not help. File still did not show. What is it that i am not doing correctly .

I once ran my own Jamroom site in the early days,many years ago.I have decided to have another go...i am on a mac and using Fetch ftp....uploaded to my domain server files,but there is no .htaccess file in the downloaded open source jamroom 4 download,so all i get at my url is "index of" reading....Any help much appreciated.
