Another one of my wishes come true for our site, too.
Thank you for asking @keith-mauck and thanks all for additional questions and answers.

Create An Event

Using Jamroom

Hi. Hope this will help (lessons learned as we are working our way through)

1. Have you activated the event calendar in the appropriate quotas? (check quota compare) http://{yoursitename.com}/profile/quota_compare

2. Once activated in the quota, go to a profile and you should see "My Events." Click on that and then on then on add new.

Hope this helps,

Development environments and cloning live sites

Jamroom Hosting

this may be a dumb question, but I'm hoping the answer is yes and hoping you'll share tips/checklist on how to proceed to make it happen:

If we clone our site, is it possible to allow 'master admin' status to two members and have that status be ONLY on the cloned site, WITHOUT impacting their 'standard user' status on our 'real' site?

We have two members who have expressed interest = one in learning more about how things work behind the scenes (to be of more help to us) and one with some coding experience who would like to play with a few ideas.

Are there other options/suggestions for how to enable their behind-the-scenes access without giving them control of our 'real' site?

During import from Ning to JR, what happens to attached documents (e.g. pdf files)?

I have many years of chaff to winnow out, not to mention entire bundles of rotting straw.
Perfectly stated!

@Strumelia, thanks for your wisdom, too. Good to read from the voice of experience.

full list of all tags?

Using Jamroom

I've changed the status of this post to 'in progress' as we've still not yet resolved this issue for our site.
Joanna will be adding a question here soon,

Export events to an external calendar

Using Jamroom

Thanks Brian,

Is there a way that members could see a list of only the events they have registered for?

Because we have so many events listed on our calendar, and because there is not an option to export to their calendars, our members who attend classes regularly are very frustrated at finding an easy way to quickly check their upcoming schedule.

They could, of course, type their own entries into their online calendars, but are quite used to convenience of saving at a click (they were able to to check classes they were attending on our Ning site easily from their profile pages and were able to export to their calendars if they so chose.

Any tips on workarounds would be appreciated. The only 'slightly helpful' trick we can think of as things stand now is for members to 'favorite'/'like'/'thumbs up' the events they plan to attend, and use that ONLY for events, and this way they could check 'my favorites' (as we've renamed it) from the drop-down sub-tab off of their profile name.

These are our members who keep us online, the members who pay for classes. The more we can please them, obviously, the better.

Any tips/workarounds would be extremely appreciated.

Thank you,

Events calendar (notification when someone registers)

Using Jamroom

I don't mind registering for the classes I list (if that's what you mean by follow?).
But events/classes/calendar listings do not have a 'follow' icon/option.

Confused by your comment, Michael. I don't think I'm asking about following something I'm not following? I'm asking about events I list. I am automatically attending that item (in my head).

groups to JRdiscussion (following)

Ning To Jamroom

FYI for all, the other issue (the follow icon not staying 'gold') has been fixed. It now works correctly when you click on an individual discussion to follow it, the icon does stay gold now.

But two more members have griped about the fact that someone has posted a comment on prior posts of theirs, and they 'assumed' they'd be notified, but were not, and so they did not respond as they normally would have. Two of them received notes from other members with "Why haven't you answered my question yet?" follow-ups... and they felt bad.

These active members, and myself, would LOVE to be able to follow a complete category. Several of our members have replied to hundreds (even thousands) of our imported discussions, and are very accustomed to being automatically notified whenever someone replies to one of their discussions and/or to one of someone else's discussions to which they have previously replied.

Hope you'll be able to help us out soon with this automated follow full category in JrDiscussion. Thanks,

Events calendar (notification when someone registers)

Using Jamroom

I have still wished I were receiving these notifications automatically (even if it might mean that I receive a few from those who toggle on / off re: attendance.

Three times in recent days I have gone and checked the calendar, noted someone (or more than one) was attending, and then NOT known when that person (those persons) later changed their RSVP to not attending.

It would be helpful for me to receive all notifications on an automatic basis. So I'll repeat my question, is this something that could be automated? And if so, please guide as to how.

Thank you,
