events setting time options for GMT 0 (NOT London), predicament international RSVPers

Suggestions

I thought the worldtimeserver link I shared would help.
I live in GMT-4 zone
On our existing Ning site I list classes at GMT.

On our JamRoom site I selected your GMT 0 option.

However, the imported classes for this month are all showing an hour off, are showing as if I were in a GMT-5 hour zone.

ALL classes are showing an hour off / wrong time.

This link might help:
http://www.timeanddate.com/time/gmt-utc-time.html

I guess this means that UTC is the setting I need!

If we use GMT 0, our times are going to be wrong for half the year!

Note this link, too: https://www.timeanddate.com/time/zones/gmt

Hope this helps clarify the challenge.

Thank you,

Holly

Still struggling with Search option in the JamRoom Forum

Suggestions

Yes, an option so that all members could add tags.
But you wrote, "just not visible to everyone"?

Why not visible to everyone? Individuals don't always think of the same key words.

It was relatively easy to find the appropriate discussions for the topic 'search', but it's not so easy when one is hunting, for example, something for my time zone issue ( https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/new_posts/43557/events-setting-time-options-for-gmt-0-not-london-predicament-international-rsvpers)

I searched several words and purposely tried to include many of them in my klunky title.
If tags were in place, I would have titled my post "Events / Calendars: wrong times posting" or at least something shorter than what I used, and then would have tagged the heck out of it, so someone else would find it on a search.

Tags would have included: Events, Calendar, time zones, GMT, UTC,

As for tags to this discussion, I would have added: search. :) Sometimes it's simple.

Other things I've searched for by 'simpler key words' have sent me to 10+ pages of results to sift through, but when I've tried to enter more specific search terms, I get the 'nothing found' even when I know that a discussion exists! Very frustrating.

Hope this helps, or that someone else can find better words to explain.

Thanks,

support tickets, site owners able to click to mark solved / resolved

Suggestions

Hello again.

I just spotted the 'lightbulb' icon here in the support forum, on a post I added, with the option to click and mark a post solved / resolved.

Is there any way to do the same for submitted support tickets? It would take a lot less time than typing a note each time to remind that a ticket can now be closed.

Just a thought?

Thanks,
Holly

Still struggling with Search option in the JamRoom Forum

Suggestions

Upfront FYI: I have wanted to add this post since my first time visiting this awesome support forum.
I have found gems, many, but mostly after spending 7+ hours skimming through and making bookmarked lists of those to return to.
Time after time, I try to find something relevant (or try to revisit something I know I have read before, and 'waste' valuable time doing so.

We're on a mission, and we want to make JamRoom work for us, and work well for us.
But I can't find things!

Tonight I searched and found these two relevant posts, now closed:https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/suggestions/22834/search-order-by-relevence/search_string=search
and
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/suggestions/1884/finding-things-and-communicating/search_string=search

and this note: "livesearch would have helped with that. Or maybe tagging the items with multiple keywords/search terms. I knew I could go and find it from my dev site's marketplace, but internet is slow tonight so I looked for the quick fix from the mothership - search the storefront listing for a module to do the job."

and this note:
Quote: Tagging is a good solution, since that is wired into the search (live search would require development).

I'll start tagging ;)

But! I don't see any tags!

Where can I find tags? I don't see the option to add tags to the posts I'm adding (like this one).
How can we add tags?

tags would be a beautiful solution... and I want to take advantage of this beautiful solution.

Disclaimer: This may simply be 'my' problem and some dumb thing I'm not seeing, some trick I don't know?
But I would love an answer (and maybe I'm not alone in this challenge?)

I would love to be able to tag posts I find in the support forum with words that make sense to me (so I can find them again as needed).

Thanks in advance,
Holly

events setting time options for GMT 0 (NOT London), predicament international RSVPers

A headscratcher for us...
I searched but didn't find another discussion about this (apologies if there is one).

Our site ( http://lewwwp.com = a Ning site today, but hopefully a JamRoom site before Oct. 1 2016), is a site for learning/practicing/teaching English. We have lots of synchronous classes, and attendees/RSVPers from all around the world, from all time zones.

We chose the (see attached screenshot) GMT 0 choice... but it's not going to work for us.

I see this "Setting the System Time Zone will adjust all of the output Date and Time stamps to the specified time zone, regardless of where your actual server may be physically located.
Default: GMT -00:00 - (GMT) Lisbon, London, Dublin

Template Variable: {$_conf.jrCore_system_timezone}
Last Updated: 09/15/16 23:10:42 by Holly Dilatush"

and hope that this means there is a way for us to tweak this, to resolve our challenge.

Because:
When we play with this on our Events Calendar, the times are all wrong by one hour (DST not figured in? or London not the same time!)
The following link shows my time, London time, and GMT/UTC time... each
different!

http://www.worldtimeserver.com/meeting-planner-times.aspx?&L0=US-VA&Day=15&Mon=9&Y=2016&L1=UTC&L2=GB&L3=&L4=&L5=&L6=&L7=

I need our calendar to show the correct "0" time. :)

Can someone help?

Thanks!

rename quota names so they appear in order you want (think: alphabetize / alphabetization)

Suggestions

Hello all,

Just thought I would share this tip... it's one of those 'no-brainers' but is helping me a lot already.

I couldn't find a way to reorder the columns in one of my favorite admin panel links [http://(yoursitename).jamroomhosting.com/profile/quota_compare], so I used tricks like:

changing "members" quota to "A members" and "master admins" to "A+ master admins" and (we are a Ning to JamRoom customer) "left Ning members" to "x left Ning members" and so on... so now when I visit that page, I'm happier!

Hope this might help others (or that if there IS a way to reorder those, someone will help me and tell me how) :)

Your reply made my night!

Hope we can help encourage others to share their questions and answers... it really is helpful.
[and there are some incredibly helpful links lurking in the admin panel].

Adding a Forum to a new profile

Installation and Configuration

Hello all,
Today was an exciting day for us, Jamroom Learning curve-wise.

We read and re-read sections from https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/documentation/contents

and came up with a metaphor that works for us so far...

Members (Users) = real live humans

Profiles (more than one possible per Member/User) = access to 'stuff'

Quotas [***HUGE point realized today is that only ONE quota can be assigned to each PROFILE (not to each Member/User, but to each PROFILE).]

Quotas => 'Resources'/stuff/stash of goodies => collections that are highly modifiable and any ONE profile can be assigned to any quota (and we can create as many quotas as we wish).

Modules => appear as 'tabs' on individual profiles (if you add a module to a quota, you will have a tab on any profile page added to that quota to represent what you've added to that quota)

Then... the final 'click!' (aha! moment) came when we discovered the http://_______.jamroomhosting.com/profile/quota_compare page!
Hurrah!

Quote: Kieth-Mauck: I'm adding new profiles. How do I add a forum module to these new profiles? Thanks.

The way I would word this answer =

First visit the http://_______.jamroomhosting.com/profile/quota_compare page for your site, then choose the quota you want them to belong to.

If you don't see a quota that provides 'green dots' for all the modules you want that profile to have access to, then you must edit and/or create such a quota.

THEN you can modify that profile to add it to or move it to the quota of your choice.

*Be sure to save your changes!

Voila!

Note: I'm finding it SO helpful to read explanations in different voices, so will try to share a few of my own pathways (in my own way) to see if it helps anyone else.

It's certainly been time-consuming, but also certainly fun to learn our way around the admin panel!

Onward, ho!
