groups to JRdiscussion (following)

Ning To Jamroom

Yes, we purchased/installed from the Marketplace both the JRdiscussion and the Transfer Tool.

We are using JRdiscussion in place of the usual JR forum module.

I am really hoping for a retro-active option to auto follow all imported discussions (those that we imported as groups from our Ning site and then transferred with the tool to JRdiscussion forum categories).

As lead teacher and community manager for a language-learning site, I give at least a cursory glance to ALL posts on our site.

I have five years of habit of following everything on Ning and receiving hundreds of email notifications daily, which I can often scan via email and delete, or right click and open in a new tab in batches, to reply to.

Having to work from the Latest Activity (timeline?) stream on our home page and then to remember to follow all discussions -- including the ones I add! -- is cumbersome and it is so easy to miss one.

I hope that we can have these options:

*default = the profile who adds a post AUTOMATICALLY follows his/her own discussions

*master admin option to auto-follow ALL discussions (retroactively from import AND future)

*all users to have the option to click to follow a CATEGORY (similar to how one can follow a GROUP), so that email notifications are sent each time a new topic is added in that category?

*resolution to number 4 in my original post.

We've just gone live a few days ago, and returning Ning members are excited but frustrated.
Overall they love the new site, but as they begin to settle in and begin being active again, they are frustrated.

This, of course, is a feeling we want to eradicate as much as possible.

Any and all help appreciated,

full list of all tags?

Using Jamroom

Thank you, Michael. I figured it had to be manageable, and figured it was probably something that a few months from now will be an intuitive change we can make.

I'll close this ticket as solved.

full list of all tags?

Using Jamroom

I thought I had seen this answered somewhere, but can't find it.

Is there a way to see a LIST of ALL tags from a particular module?
The tag clouds are fun, but not so efficient.

Is there a way we can access a full list of all the tags on our site?

Members are begging for this!

Any insight appreciated.

dead links (email notifications, hyperlinks not active?)

Using Jamroom

Hello all,

I received this from a member today:

"When I was on the old site, I got emails about all subjects that I was active on them.
Email notifications had a link that I clicked it and then, I went on the subject directly and easily.
Now, I get email notifications every day, but links don't work.
I must go on the site and search them.
It is very difficult and I must spend a lot of time for finding subjects.
Please, find a way that links in email notifications work well.
Thanks,"

I have not had this issue with email notifications I am receiving.
Have any of you encountered this and do you have any suggestions as to what questions I should ask, or tips on how to resolve?

Thanks,

groups to JRdiscussion (following)

Ning To Jamroom

Hello all,
I'm a happy Ning 2.0 to JamRoom 6 beta site owner.

We are using the JRdiscussion module for our main forum (rather than the JamRoom forum module).

I also paid for the marvelous transfer tool... to transfer group discussions to forums (to our JRdiscussion forum categories).

We've just gone live this week, and I have a few related questions/challenges we're running into:

On Ning, I was used to creating a group, immediately going to discussions in that group and scrolling to the bottom to select 'follow' (so that I would receive email notifications for any new discussion added.

[we had 175+ theme-based groups, with over 7000 discussions, which have now been transferred into a MUCH more user-friendly compact 24 forum categories]

1. Is there a way that master admins (at a minimum) or any quota (preferred) could be set so that a user COULD choose to follow a complete category in our JRdiscussion forum (rather than having to go through and click to follow each discussion imported into that category)? [As master admin/lead teacher/community manager on our site, I WANT to follow ALL discussions, always. Is this possible? (please say yes) :)

2. I notice that in groups (all of our remaining groups on our JamRoom site are private groups, not public groups) we can follow the group. I assume/hope this means I will receive notifications of any new discussion and reply comment and any comment wall comment added to any group I choose to follow.

My question is: Must I click to follow each individual discussion that was imported?

3. Is there a way to have GROUP CREATORS automatically follow private group discussions?

4. a glitch we're discovering in our JRdiscussion forums => when anyone clicks to follow an individual discussion topic, the icon turns gold for as long as that user has that discussion window open.
However, if that same user visits that discussion page again, the icon reverts to white (consistently). It does NOT remain yellow after a user leaves the page (however the user DOES still receive email notifications). This is, of course, confusing/annoying because as a user I 'know' I have followed that discussion, and if I click on the icon again to turn it yellow, instead it UNfollows! I hope this is a glitch that can be fixed (or a dumb setting error on my part, in which case I hope you can guide me as to how to fix such setting).

Thank you for anticipated answers/help,

tag creators not able to delete their tags?

Using Jamroom

Hello again,
a question...

During a live video call yesterday, I screenshared and showed how to find and add tags. I purposely misspelled one so I could show how to delete it. No problem.

BUT then one of the other 'normal users' in the call said, "Yeah. It works, but I can delete YOUR tags, too. And he did delete one of my tags!"

Does that one-hour edit period mean that ANY member online can delete ANYONE else's tags that have been added in the past hour?

Is there a fix for this?

Thank you,
Holly

auto follow = 'retro'?

Ning To Jamroom

Hi all,

https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/announcements/35030/new-auto-follow-module-free

I have used the ACP feature to have all NEW members 'auto-follow' me and for me to 'auto-follow' them, but

So far, for all imported Ning members rejoining our new JamRoom site, this is not working.

When a 'new new' member joins, the auto follow works fine.

My question is, is there any way to make this apply to ALL the returning members... so that I do not have to visit 500+ profile pages and click to follow?

Thank you for any help you might offer,

Can I move discussions from a group to my site's community forum?

Ning To Jamroom

Hi Deb-W, Michael,

Paul did this for us during the past couple of weeks, and I can tell you it worked like a charm!

I moved over 7000 discussions from imported Ning groups to JRdiscussion forum... easily, and so much more quickly than I'd ever imagined! It was worth every penny I paid for the tool. Highly recommended!

Categories for blogs?

Ning To Jamroom

Jo Deb-W,

I'm attaching a screenshot from our site... Ningja skin, Jamroom 6...
and we have that option.

Not sure it will help you, but maybe?

Not sure which skin you use, or if it's a feature with the skin, or with JamRoom 6?

As to your second question, whether you pre-set the categories so they are the same site-wide, I do not know. [My guess would be 'no', but if we can, that might be helpful for us to consider, too.]

I'll add another question... If we CAN use presets that every site blogger would see, would we still be able to include the option for individuals to add additional categories?

Thought I had answered with a 'gotcha!' and solved, but see it's still open.
This was resolved.
We are live!
We are very pleased with our decision to choose JamRoom,
