Vimeo integrity check deleted all my videos

Using Jamroom

Got the videos back and learned about the Recycle Bin! Great! Thank you. I won't plan on doing an Integrity Check again.

Still no thumbnails on those videos, though. Seems like the privacy is blocking the picture from showing up, even though the video is allowed. I guess I should make this a separate thread. Will do.

Vimeo integrity check deleted all my videos

Using Jamroom

All my videos (onsite, YouTube, and Vimeo) were successfully imported from my Ning site. I noticed that my Vimeo videos did not show thumbnail images like the YouTube and onsite videos and wanted to correct that. I noted in the DataStore for Vimeo, no artwork urls appeared as they did in the other video lists. Hmm...

Exploring the documentation, I found that it was necessary to create a Vimeo app and enter the client codes in the module config. I did that. Still no thumbnails.

Then I foolishly tried running an Integrity Check. It deleted all but one of my Vimeo videos (along with their comments) saying the videos don't exist on Vimeo. They do! They're set as private, hidden from Vimeo, only viewable on selected sites -- including my Jamroom site. Now what? I need to get my videos and their comments back, hopefully with their thumbnail images.

What causes a Youtube video to show the embed code instead of the video?

Using Jamroom

Strumelia:
a space saving tip:
Under your Core Modules, go to Image Core, then Tools/resize item images.
Pick the images residing on your site in various locations (dropdown menu) and reduce them in size to whatever. I've used a max of 960 pixels max for the images in every feature. If you go through them all, it will downsize all the accumulated images that your ning members added over the years...

Thank you for this, Strumelia. I'm going to cut the size of my site in half! A little scary to click "Resize" as the changes are irreversible and my site is heavily image based, with students sharing close-up photos of stitching to get feedback. I don't want to risk making them too small for clear viewing. But I'll definitely shrink them a bit... once I get up the courage. Great tip!

How do I get my new SiteBuilder-built home page to be the default?

Using Jamroom

Thanks, Michael. Sorry to be so rudimentary. This is all very new to me. Your second response answers my question.
michael:
A: Go to the page you built with site builder, click on the SITE BUILDER button.
PAGE CONFIG -> PAGE SETTINGS -> Page URL
Change that from /home to just /
SAVE CHANGES.

Done and it works.

How do I get my new SiteBuilder-built home page to be the default?

Using Jamroom

I see... In my first experiments with Site Builder and all the various widgets, I wasn't ready to override the original home page... and I wanted to be able to look back and forth between the pages as I was working so I could understand what was working and what wasn't. That's why I made a new URL. And it's taken a few days (with lots of help from you and Paul, thank you) to get all the widget settings just right.

Are you saying that now, to override the existing / page, I have to rebuild anew starting from your-site.com/? Is there no way to move or copy the page I've already put so much time into? Just making sure I understand before I start over.

Can I direct users to the Home page upon login, instead of to their Profile page?

Using Jamroom

The default (don't know if it's the NingJa skin or Jamroom in general) seems to be for a user to arrive at their own profile page upon login to the site. I would much prefer users to start each session with a view of the community's activity on the home page. How would I adjust this so that log in leads to home page instead of profile page?

How do I get my new SiteBuilder-built home page to be the default?

Using Jamroom

I created a new home page for my site with Site Builder and mapped it to the Home menu item. Now, if I'm logged in and click on the Home menu link, I get my new home page just fine. BUT if I leave the site then come back while still logged in, it shows me the old default home page. That's at index.tpl in my NingJa skin, right?

How do I get my new Site Builder built home page to be the default? Do I need to replace index.tpl? Or put redirect code somewhere?

Stymied by Site Builder

Using Jamroom

michael:
...have written up a howto here:
Docs: "HowTo make the site visible to members only"https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/jamroom-admin-handbook/4357/howto-make-the-site-visible-to-members-only

Thanks, Michael! I got this to work. Just had to go back to the Site Settings and turn my Privacy back to Public to make the whole thing work.

Other issues were posted to separate threads, so we can call this meandering topic "solved" now. Many thanks!
