How Easy Is It to Move A Ning 2.0 Site to JamRoom?

Ning To Jamroom

It was quite a scary day for Ning owners... I've migrated two sites to JR and am now working with two others (of course I've forgotten everything I knew about migration in the 8 months since I've done this). I also know the owners of two other Ning sites that I'm connected to.

So on Friday, suddenly all Ning sites (including Ning.com and Creators) disappeared. When we tried to access our sites, we go the message that we couldn't find the server. Totally freaked us all out. But then I found the posts on the Ning FB page ( https://www.facebook.com/Ning/) about what was going on. And the sites did come back up. Needless to say, we are much more vigilant about backing up our Ning sites (they are all 2.0) and speeding up the migration of both of our Ning sites to JR.

Working on "look & feel" & eager for suggestions.

Ning To Jamroom

Can someone share easy directions for cloning a skin? I'd like to play around with a skin but don't want to "mess it up" (says the queen of non-coders).

Using different skins & site builder

Ning To Jamroom

Can I use different skins instead of Ningja for my Ning-to-JR site? I have a server set up with JR for Ning import and have started setting up the modules. But now we are thinking we want it to look a bit different than our Ning site (but not too different!).

So we are considering a different skin (maybe Nova Light or Sage). Will Ning import OK into a site with one of those skins? Will the modules all stay the same? Can we use site builder to tweak things if we switch to one of those skins?

Using SurveyMonkey on JR

Ning To Jamroom

Does anyone have any experience using SurveyMonkey on JR? I am trying to embed a survey using the installation code from SM and copying it into the source code box for a widget on our main page. But when I try to save it, it tells me that "There is a Smarty syntax error in your HTML - please fix and try again" Not being a coder, I have no idea what that means LOL...

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

Is there a module for adding a live chat feature to my JR site?

Ning To Jamroom

Good advice, Strumelia! I think we can wait a bit... I'm always interested in what the JR folks are cooking up. thanks.

New Jamroom Hosting Features Questions

paul:
Just to add to Michael's response, we do have our own chat module under development and that will be released fairly soon.

Will there be an announcement when this is ready for use?
