I don't understand what that means "a2enmod deflate". I opened the Apache config file and removed # before the deflate statement... what else should I do?

I've tried all of the above and still get:

Internal Server Error

Please contact the server administrator at admin@localhost to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

When I do that, I get...

Unable to find the .htaccess file - please ensure the .htaccess from the Jamroom 5 Core ZIP file is uploaded to your server.

Where's the server log located? The steps: all I'm doing is clicking on "install"... nothing else. I'll try to install other apps.
