Notification problem

Using Jamroom

@Michael - This clarification is helpful. I had no idea it worked that way. Further clarification as @strumelia has requested would be even more helpful.

Most of our members stay logged in.

"Both members on-line at the same time" doesn't mean they will both be viewing the same discussion, so it seems odd that the notification may not be sent out under those circumstances.

Our members want to get a notification for every update to a discussion (unless they un-follow it), and they would like a link in the notification to take them to the update.

It would be hard to find an update to the discussion if it was a REPLY to someone else's comment, and you didn't get a notification for it. The reply may appear way down the discussion thread.

I look forward to hearing more about the ver 1.1.4.

Notification problem

Using Jamroom

I have asked for support on this too. I had not considered that the notifications are only for people who were already in the discussion when it was followed, and I'll try to check that. As @strumelia says, it's not easy to test - I don't have any problems myself.

Some members have noted that they only get notifications if they are following the person who commented, as well as following the group discussion.

Profile URL problem

Using Jamroom

Just had a new user register with the user name kxxxx@potomactutors.com (i.e. her email address. Profile name, user name and email address are all the same on this user's account. Shouldn't this be rejected on sign-up?

Profile URL problem

Using Jamroom

I've got this too.. "Amanda H." and "Amanda H" but it's the same person.
The Amanda H. (with dot) was the original Ning import. They had different email addresses and profile pics. She reported problems getting into her account, including not seeing any tabs on the profile page and her profile showing as "offline".

I deleted the "Amanda H" profile - it had no activity on it and I assumed the user had created it by mistake, and that it was causing ambiguity. However, she still can't access her account.

Her account and profile name are the same (Amanda H.), she has the same profile picture for both, her link is @amanda-h without the dot of course. See attached screenshot for profile page, on which I can see the tabs, but no profile picture. the comments are out of order and the first 2 are from Amanda H. herself, who also is a follower on this profile.

1) Can I fix it, or is it so messed up that I should delete this profile and start again with a valid account/profile name?

2) I have another user with two spaces in her profile name "Susan Sprigg". I think this was a Ning import. If I remove the space from the profile name and/or account name, will it affect the account data in any way (galleries, groups, discussions etc,) ?

I'd appreciate advice - I don't want to nullify anyone by accident.

Put lightbox feature everywhere?

@michael, I appreciate you taking the time to consider what I'm asking for. JR5 is so flexible it must be a challenge to understand all the different users' particular needs - and you do it so well.

I agree your standard set-up is the best multi-purpose fit. The square thumbnails look great.
For any photographic or art site, I believe your 2nd attachment including some white space is actually exactly what's needed, as it represents what you would see if you went to an art gallery (pictures hung level at the top). It's rare that the shapes are as extremely different as in your example.

This is the 'editing' view of one of my galleries, which is like your 2nd attachment and is what I would like to achieve for all gallery views. Thanks very much for the link. I will go away and study it and pass on to Ruth when she gets back.

Put lightbox feature everywhere?

Using Jamroom

Thanks for your answer, Michael.

The reason for wanting the lightbox on a single image, is to get the entire image displayed to fit the screen, so you don't have to scroll down the page to see it all.
This is extremely important on our image sharing site.

We also have some images that are meant to be smaller than the maximum fit-to-screen size. Editing the image size doesn't make the image display smaller, it just makes it more pixelated. I'll be reading up about the jr/Gallery/templates/item_detail.tpl so I can understand a bit more about it.

I'd also love to make the gallery grid show un-cropped thumbnails. It's important to see the whole image, even when reduced in size. When cropped to a square, it becomes very hard to evaluate a photo or artwork, or to identify an image you're searching for. It's great as shown on the gallery edit page - not so neat, of course, but much more usable.

Put lightbox feature everywhere?

Using Jamroom

Zachary Moonshine:
also i notice if you dont use the lightbox the images are massive so much that you have to scroll up and down to see them and then back up and down to find the arrow button to get to the next image this makes it an extremely difficult experience to browse photos unless you know about the lightbox it would be amazing if the lightbox was just the default way all images opened up

Ah, Brian, now I get it. And I agree with Zachary. It would resolve all my display issues, (apart from getting a small display of a small image, for which I will look to the jrGallery/templates/item_detail.tpl).
Can I put a Lightbox view option on pages other than the Gallery view page? for example, on the individual photo page?

Put lightbox feature everywhere?

Using Jamroom

Thanks for your quick response, Brian. That's helpful, I know where to look now.
I'm not trying to set a specific height/width of screen, or a specific image pixel size. What I need is for the display to be limited to whichever is the smallest (screen height or width, or image pixels).

I won't hijack Zachary's thread any further. Feel free to delete my comments.

Put lightbox feature everywhere?

Using Jamroom

I'm searching (in my ignorance I'm afraid) for information on how images are displayed in galleries. I've searched the JR documentation for information on Lightbox and come up empty, so forgive me if I am off topic - I really don't know if our site uses the lightbox and Ruth isn't available to ask, but this thread does seem relevant to my problem.

As an Admin on the pmp-art site, I'm getting lots of questions/complaints about how to control the size of image as displayed in galleries. Resizing the image (e.g. in the Image Editor) does not make it smaller when displayed. This is a feature that everyone wants.

On the pmp-art site, the display seems to use only the image pixel width, to work out how big to make the displayed size, it doesn't use the height, so you do often have to scroll a 'portrait format' photo. I attach an extreme example.. the screen shot is the entire visible screen.

Can you give me a pointer as to where to look? Sorry if this is a dim question. I'm new.

I've read the Forum posts here: https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/design-and-skin-customization/8494/nova-skin-gallery-lightbox-not-resizing-to-browser-window
and here: https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/25127/photo-lightbox-viewer-possible-to-link-to-image/search_string=lightbox
Both discussions are now closed, but don't say what the outcome was. Did you update the lightbox? Is there a way to click from an image to comment (that would be nice)?
