Reports of Search not working and failure to navigate site

Using Jamroom

Since yesterday, we have had a number of reports from our users of the search not working on Images or Profiles. One user has mentioned that she cannot navigate the site today...
QUOTE I no longer have the ability to change pages on the website. It happens on viewing images and on individual's profile pages. UNQUOTE

I can see no problem when searching images or profiles and I can navigate the site without difficulty. I've tried this from my Admin profile and standard user profile. Is anyone else suddenly having problems?

Should 'Reply to a comment' generate a notification?

Using Jamroom

@strumelia - thank very much for that info - really helpful!
Do your users get notified when someone "comments back" on an item?

Can we have threading enabled in groups discussions (and perhaps forums), but not on Profile pages and Image detail pages, where a "comment back" would seem preferable?

If we were to change from threads to 'comment back', would the existing 'reply' threads disappear? I assume so.

I am looking for a way to notify people whenever someone addresses a remark to them, so if this can be done within the existing system, that would be great.

Should 'Reply to a comment' generate a notification?

Using Jamroom

@Michael - yes, that's right. In your example, we'd like a notification when anyone (including Tom) replies to Sarah.
We already have notifications to a profile for comments on items owned by that profile (with an option in account settings to stop notifications).
Thanks for looking.

Should 'Reply to a comment' generate a notification?

Using Jamroom

When User-A comments on something posted by User-B (an image, for example), the comment is shown with a REPLY link in it. If User-B responds to the comment using the REPLY, no notification is generated for User-A. User-A will be unaware of the response, unless he/she happens to revisit the item that was commented on.
Is this what is intended, or is it something that's not working on our site?

If this is normal, can you please explain how we might generate notifications for Replies? Thank you.

Newsletter refined function? or PMs to multiple selected members?

Using Jamroom

There are two ways we want to do multiple-recipient messages on our site:
1) 'Broadcasts' to a quota (occasional, by Master Admin or Admin);
2) Messages to all users who are following a specific Group (frequent, by Admin or group owner).

There is a need for Admins and owners of Groups to send messages to an entire group membership. The members of a Group may not all be in the same quota, and not everyone in a quota will be a member of the group.

Our groups typically have around 200-400 members. One or two have over 1000. It is not practical to 'hand select' all members of a group every time you want to send a message to its membership. The group membership will change as users join or leave groups, so it's not desirable to have a fixed address list either. If there was some way of addressing a newsletter to 'all members of Group' that would be fantastic.

We don't at the moment have a quota for Group Leaders, but it seems like a good idea. If newsletter recipients could be selected by group membership, then we would want to give the Group Leader quota the ability to send newsletters.

Empty Title in Like notification emails

Using Jamroom

Just to bring this thread up to date:
@Brian has upgraded our Like functionality on pmp-art.com so that this problem was solved, 4th Oct I think. He also added a hotlink on the number of likes displayed on the image page, so we can click to see a pop-up window of all the profiles who liked the image.

In the last 4 days, this has gone very wrong. We now no longer have the link in the Like email notification. Liking an image actually decreases the number of likes. Liked images appear multiple times in a profile's "Recent Likes", but reportedly, not at all in the page Items You Like.
The worst problem is that Like notifications are being generated multiple times - we have reports of as many as 68 emails being sent for the same Like action.

This is a major problem for us. Apart from the additional cost of sending emails, it is very annoying for our users and is breaking the lines of communication which we are still trying to rebuild. The sending of excessive emails would be even worse, but for another problem we have, which is that a lot of users' notifications were all switched off without any action on their part... This seems to have occurred at the last update, but I can't be sure. I will raise a separate ticket for that.

The ticket we have open for the Likes problem is this one...

I know you're looking at this. I'm commenting here to keep this thread up to date and explain the urgency. Thanks.

redundant notifications in Groups

Using Jamroom

@strumelia, Sorry if I was vague. I'm trying to explain that the only circumstance when I get a redundant notification of the kind you have described, is when I own the group and the group discussion AND I have also 'followed' the discussion explicitly by clicking the circle icon.

I'm puzzled as to why you don't get notifications for all those discussions you started in groups you own... Have you turned off those notifications in your account settings?

redundant notifications in Groups

Using Jamroom

Sorry for the delay in responding.
I've discarded those messages some time ago, so I'm not exactly sure, but I remember they were two different formats, so it's likely they were as you describe.
I attach a screenshot of one of my discussions, showing that I am not Following, but I do get notifications for it, of the form ...

I've now clicked Follow in that discussion. For the next comment posted, I received 2 notifications, as you have described - one says New Comment and the other is Discussion Updated.
