Sounds perfect. Obviously depending on the format, you will be able to use some fields more than others. Something like a wav file doesn't have any tags so we have to do the best we can "tagging" the file name.

Looking forward to this one. It makes the purchaser experience so much better.

No, I think whatever fields are collected when a user creates media should be the official. In a perfect world, we would detect tags on upload and autofill form, allow the user to make changes, and overwrite with when media is saved. You could also rename the filename something relevant as well (Release-artist-songname).

However i would be happy if we just overwrote; ideally any fields collected on the upload form that could be mapped e.g. label, year, bpm, genre, lyrics, album cover, and especially any unique id or fields; basically ALL AVAILABLE tags. I don't think we need to ask the user which ones to write/not write.

Bonus points if this happened at purchase time so you can also insert a purchaser/transaction id.

That would be great. There are tons of very simple scripts to do this. I thought it would be part of the audio file. Some even support tagging multiple formats e,g, http://sourceforge.net/projects/idteid3tagedito/.
I figure something like this would be basic tool of media package together with ffmpeg

It nice when you purchase a whole bunch of tracks and download them and you know what they are. Unfortunately, a producer may not name his file accordingly when uploading.

Separating pending payout money and store profits and reconciliation

Using Jamroom

So how do you know how much you receive from foxycart after transaction? It seems your artist and store profits are calculated before transaction fees, no?

e.g.
If you sell a song for $1.00
txn fee is .35
it seems you would have net $.65

Of that, if store fee is 20%
$.13 would go to store
$.52 would go to artist.

BUT, if the store does NOT take transaction fee into consideration
Sell the song for $1.00 with 20% store fee.
$.80 goes to artist
$.20 goes to store
and if you pay out transaction fees, $.35
You end up losing money on each sale.

I don't see where module accounts for transaction fees before doing the split.

This is why i keep asking for foxycart workflow logic diagram.

I don't have that setting in 'audio support-->global config'. it only shows 'block mp3 downloads' and 'max conversion workers'.

Additionally, my audio files are in 3 different modules (based off audio). We don't use the price field. The price is stored in a different module/table. How can I trigger that the creation of the sample.

Do you have an ETA on that? It seems like a pretty important feature. If its not for a while, can you recommend some good lightweight taggers?

Where do you find the balance of the site/store profits? i.e. after a purchase is made, and the % is payed to the store is there a table or report that stores that?

I assume this still allows you to play (stream)the file in the player. What protocol is used to stream? I assume its not progressive and not stored on the user's drive.

Yes - it prevents MP3's from being downloaded via the "download" view - it only allows streaming vie the "stream" view, which is a normal file stream on port 80. If the user has a tool to store it on their drive, they can (since it has to be sent to them to be played). Just like always, there is no 100% secure way to prevent someone from downloading and saving a file. This is why in JR, when a file is for sale, only the sample is streamed - not the whole song.

How do do you specify a different version for the sample? Are artist supposed to upload a separate sample? or is there a way to create a sample automatically?(either by cropping, reducting quality, or inserting audible tones/watermarks)
